Vegas - Harrahs or Sahara
 

I'll be in Vegas for a bachelorette weekend. We are on a budget and have found good deals at Sahara and Harrahs. Any recommendations?

Harrahs all the way. Much better location, less smoke, you might get future offers for discounts at Rio, you can get the shuttle to Rio for good clubs (Voodoo Lounge), they have a cool outdoor bar area, the party pit is good to gamble in (friendly to novices, low limits - though Sahara has low limit BJ). I don't think there's any comparison here, Harrah's is a great location so you can walk to some other high profile casinos, Sahara is far from the heart of the strip.

Hands down harrahs. There is no dispute on this one. Although Harrhas rooms are on the small side, they are clean and in good condition. The Best feature of Harrahs is it's location, across the St. from Mirage, where the nightlife and action is always hopping.<BR><BR>The Sahara's major neg. is it's location; FAR down on the north end of the strip

I too would say Harrahs over Saharah, but if you're throwing Flamingo into the mix....<BR><BR>If it's pool weather then Flamingo is now your choice! If it'll be too cold for swimming, then either is fine and they're equivalent, although i would personally choose Flamingo if they were the same price.

If you're going to use the pool-Flamingo, then just hang out at Harrah's.

Flamingo definetely has a great outdoor area/pool area, so if you are planinng to use that, yes, I would agree that Flamingo over Harrahs. But other reports I've read say that the rms at the Flamingo are old and run down. I can say from 1st personal expereince that that is not the case with Harrahs. Again, Harrahs rms are on the small side, but in great condition. <BR>I also prefer Harrahs casino over Flamingos. Both Harrahs &amp; Flamingo are in great locations, and both have easy access to the strip.<BR>Have you checked out the rates at Ballys? They just completed renovating both the rms &amp; casino; I stayed there this past Jan., and was very impressed. the rms are VERY large, and VERY nicely decorated. And since it's connected to Paris, LV, you can easily go back and forth between the casinos.<BR>Ha

I agree with the others - Flamingo definitely has the advantage over Harrah's in the pool area. In fact, I've never seen a worse pool than Harrah's for a strip hotel. If you don't plan on using the pool, I think that Harrah's would edge out Flamingo (either is a better choice than the Sahara).

Harrahs and if you like a pool the flamingo looks nice but that water is CHILLY! Even when it is 100 out. Sorry but it is. Most people dip in and out. Flamingo has some of the worst rooms, food and service in that area of the strip. JMHO. Only thing worse would be the IP IMO.

Definitely Harrahs over Sahara any day of the week. As far as Harrahs or Flamingo, it's a toss up. They are basically just half a block from each other so location is not the issue. Personally I like Harrahs, however you can't go wrong with Flamingo either. I do know that Harrahs opened a new tower about a year ago. Not sure if Flamingo has done any remodeling.

Another vote for Harrah's here! Clean, comfy rooms, with recent property freshening. Public areas are quite nice, restaurants OK (nothing spectacular, but good). The casino is quite large and lots of fun. Only drawbacks: free drinks are a bit watery, the cocktail wait staff rather elderly. But for the price, Harrah's is my choice every time.

The rooms at Flamingo aren't the best. I've commented on the pool before..TONS of kids. Lots of pool noodles. But I'm staying there next month, so it's not horrible.<BR><BR>This is my thinking: If I'm there for a bachelorette party, I want a decent room where I can stumble in at 3am, and a decent pool where I can rest my body and head the next day. I don't want to pay a bunch so I can buy lots of drinks and maybe do some shopping. Flamingo fits the bill nicely.<BR><BR>Have fun!<BR>snarla

Just came back from Vegas a few weeks ago, stayed at Flamingo. Got a 55/night rate mid-week, so decided that was a good reason to try Flamingo. I had no real complaints. The rooms are not top notch, but clean and standard hotel/motel type. But then again, that's probably what they give you for these discounted rates, who knows? What I did like was the location, definitely mid strip, close for walking to Bally's, Ceasar's, Paris, Bellagio. Also, I liked that you didn't have to walk a mile from check in to the elevator. Easy to get from rooms to lobby and street. Enjoyed the casino, won a bit but also gambled at the others. Pool looked great but it wasn't pool weather when I was there. I'd go back to the Flamingo if there was a good rate.

What would be considered a good rate for a Friday and Saturday night at Harrah's? Any suggestions on where to go to get the best rate?

What was wrong with the pool at Harrahs? Small? Dirty Water? Just wondering what makes it the worst pool on the strip?

It is just a little rectangular pool with a square of concrete and some lounge chairs. The area didn't even look like it got any sun and there was no attempt at landscaping. Compared to some of the elaborate pools available, even at moderately priced hotels, Harrah's has the worst.

Harrah's is the most blatantly obvious hotel on the strip with regard to their philosophy that they want you either gambling or gone. The rooms, pools, entertainment, food are all about as bland as you'll find in a hotel run by such a large and profitable corporation.
They don't want you in your room or hanging around in a beautiful pool area. They want you dropping ca$h.
