Vegas - Grand Canyon - Sedona Itinerary

Message: Here is my plan -

10/7 Thur fly to Vegas that night
10/8 Fri night Vegas see a show
10/9 Sat night Vegas see another show
10/10 Sun morning pick up rental drive to GC
Stay at GC Sun 10/10 & Mon 10/11 night. Here is the glitch in my plan. Wanted to do mule trip Monday 10/11 but they are booked - do have availability Sun 10/10 & Tues 10/12...but we plan to leave Tues 10/12 to go to L'Auberge in Sedona for 3 nights then onto to Scottsdale to stay in a resort (Marriott points!) before flying home out of Phoenix.

So my ? is should we cut our stay in Vegas short to get to the mule ride on Sunday 10/10? Neither one of us is dying to go to Vegas, we aren't gamblers, but we do really want to see 1 or 2 shows. My other problem is L'Auberge where I really, really want to stay in Sedona is booked until 10/12. I guess we *could* stay another night in the GC but all that is available is the Yavapai Lodge & I'd really rather stay only 2 nights in the GC. We aren't huge hikers so I don't know what all we'd do to fill our time if we stayed 3 nights instead of 2. I think we'd both rather get to Sedona.

Another option would be to stay 1 night elsewhere on 10/11 in Sedona & then move over to L'Auberge on 10/12....but how much of a pain would this be?

or do I just scrap the mule ride, leave plan as is & get on the waiting list for a mule ride. I've got to say I'm not 100% sold on the mule ride, my DH does want to do it but I'm nervous about the whole thing even though I know it is safe - I feel like it is something I should do though!

what to do, what to do???

Hey Stephn,
So, you decided on the Southwest! Looks like you've done plenty of homework.

For me there's no question. I would most definitely give up one night in Vegas before I would give up a mule ride in the GC or a night at L'Auberge.

Personally I'd give up the mule ride, but that may be the wrong answer if it'll really annoy your DH!

I would give up a night in Vegas and go on the mule ride. If you are not gamblers, you probably don't need 3 nights in Vegas, IMO. The mule ride will be such a unique and memorable experience!

I'm doing it on 9/28, and can't wait!

Technically it isn't 3 nights in Vegas since the night we arrive our flight doesn't get in until almost 11pm or midnight so coming from the east coast I'm assuming we'll just get to our room & crash.

I'm still really torn up about this mule
trip not being available but my DH says after thinking about it he can live w/passing on it. We're looking to do a hot air balloon ride in Sedona instead plus I'm going to keep calling to see if something will open up for a mule ride.

lvk - yes as you can see we decided on the Southwest mostly because of your suggestion of L'Auberge after seeing the website I was sold! Plus you brought up some good food for thought about getting more for our miles going to west coast. So thanks for your help!!!! I'm so excited about out trip.

Glad to be of help! I think you'll really enjoy L'Auberge (now I'm soooo jealous!).

Hope you post a trip report to let us know how it all turns out.

If you line up first thing in the morning, they sometimes have openings on the mule rides for the same day. If you can't get it changed in advance, that is worth a try.
