Vegas fun stuff

A last minute post: What are your fave things to do in Vegas (legal please!)? I'll be there tomorrow, and am looking for any last minute ideas. Dining and happy hour ideas welcome too. :-)

In addition to the usual eating, drinking, gambling, going to the firing range at the gun store on Tropicana and renting an Uzi is lots of fun.

trippinkpj Jun 13th, 2007 10:19 AM

Any others? If not, I'll take what I've learned from past posts and experiences in LV. ;-)

FainaAgain Jun 13th, 2007 10:29 AM

Oh, plenty!

I like to get silly in Vegas, to go to places like see the lions and have lunch at Rainforest Cafe (yeah, a woman of a "certain age" and who are you to judge me ;) ) at MGM

There is a body exhibit at Tropicana if you like it

1/2 price ticket booth next to M&M world - they have a free 3-D presentation like a movie, nice thing to visit, the biggest plus - you can rest a while in an air conditioned room

Luxor-Mandalay monorail, sharks at Mandalay, and a 3-D movie in Luxor is a must, I strongly recommend Nile or Sea something - saw them both.

Margaritaville, depends on your age, for older folks - lunch, for younger - evening - will get LOUD. And as it's in Flamingo, see the arboretum area (go through the casino)

Art exhibits in Bellagio and Venetian, gondolas, Toussaud if you like to see dead people :) Fountains and conservatory. Check out the glass flowers in Bellagio by the registration

Auto exhibit at Imperial - don't pay, get coupons off the internet to go for free

My little secret: take the monorail to Paris and walk to the strip through the "village" you'll feel like being in Europe!

Caesar's statues, TI pirates... I'm sure i'm missing a lot on my list!

Haven't been to Wynn yet, we left it for next time, go there and report back ;)

Here is what I do: I make a list of all hotels/casinos in the area in Excel with columns for hours, admission fee, days, etc... so all I need to carry is one or 2 pages, make a 2-sided copy for one list

Back to work :)

Faina had a good list and I'll add to it - the shopping center in the new Planet Hollywood (the old Aladdin) is a great place - LOTS of shops and restaurants and great atmosphere.

There is a really good show at 3 in the afternoon (except on Mon/Tues) at the Flamingo - Society of Seven - they are very well-known in Hawaii (and LV) and are very talented, they also have a female singer who is very good. The price is about $50-something per person.

The Secret Garden in the Mirage is a fun place to go - there is a dolphin habitat with several dolphins you can watch - including a brand new baby dolphin - it's a really cool place. There is also several tigers, white lions, etc in the Secret Garden.

Thanks Faina and Bashful. I forgot about that Society of Seven show which sounds great. We will be staying mostly downtown, although I know we'll get bored there after awhile and want to hit the Strip! My daughter and I for sure want to go to the Wynn.

My two favorite things are the Fountains at the Bellagio and The VooDoo Lounge at the Rio.

ethel Jun 13th, 2007 12:19 PM

My favorite is Big Elvis at Bill's (used to be Barbary Coast). I think he plays at 3 and 7 on weekdays but not sure.

trippinkpj Jun 13th, 2007 01:21 PM

Thanks Ethel. I would of liked to see Big Elvis. He is on vacation for the time we are there. Oh well, maybe next time!

ethel Jun 14th, 2007 06:02 AM

Oh, trippin, that stinks. Guess that's one more reason already to return.

I hope you have fun. Make sure to post your report! ;)

trippinkpj Jun 14th, 2007 07:41 AM

Thanks Ethel. I will do a trip report next week!

Claudette Jun 17th, 2007 03:42 PM

Any chance you can send me a copy of that 2 page list?? Pretty please :)

Going to Vegas in 2 weeks.

Ralphie Jun 17th, 2007 03:48 PM

This might sound boring, but: wander around the hotels. They're amazing feats of engineering and architecture, and it's amusing (to me) to see how they designed everything to attract visitors and hold so many people. IN vegas, several of them have shopping malls....inside the hotel! That's how huge they are.

trippinkpj Jun 18th, 2007 07:52 AM

Hi Ralphie- We are back, and we did the hotel wandering thing. The Mirage, Venetian and the Wynn on the strip. And Golden Nugget and Main Street Station downtown (among others). I'll do a trip report in a day or two. :-)

FainaAgain ... I would also appreciate a copy of your two page list. Please post it so others can share in it.

FainaAgain Jul 3rd, 2008 07:49 AM

Bawl, I am sorry, I don't keep it. Once use, I delete it from my computer.

The reason: everything changes so fast! For example, yesterday somebody asked for advice, and I've noticed, Luxor doesn't have IMAX on their website, we've never been to Wynn, looks like the trolley is no longer running...

Another reason: we've decided to go to Vegas when the monorail is running to the airport :)

I just do Excel spreadsheet with columns: hotel's name, list of attractions at this hotel, hours opened, admission price, notes: maybe which exhibit. These things change.

Thanks!! I'm not going to September, so maybe I should wait a little while before creating the file.
