Vegas buffet
 

We'll be in LV in early November and would like a great buffet for dinner one night. We will probably be dining at Mesa Grill and Boulud on the other nights. What is a nice buffet with good food? Has anyone tried the one at the Wynn? We don't want the Paris b/c we'll be having it for breakfast. Any suggestions? Thanks fodorites.

Do you have a budget or a price range that you want to stick to?? There are quite a few good buffets, but if price is not an issue, we think the Bellagio and the Wynn have the best buffets. Hands down! By best, I mean the quality of the food, not necessarily "more bang for your buck!" They're both about the same price and they're not cheap! But they could be cheaper depending on when you go (one of the things I hate about Vegas)....weekday or weekend, holiday, long weekend, etc.

We have enjoyed the Rio or the Aladdin. We haven't tried the champagne brunch at Bally's, but have heard it's excellent although very expensive. Sometimes on Vegas.com there will be a link rating restaurants by the locals. Enjoy!

My favorite is the buffet at the Aladdin. I believe dinner there was $25.00 per person last time I went. The food is fresh, varied, and delicious. The desserts are out of this world.

I had lunch at the buffet at Wynn and was unimpressed...not worth the $20.00 per person we paid.

The buffets at Bellagio and Aladdin have the best buzz, although for the money you're still getting food that won't match a comparable sit-down joint. The lines at the Bellagio buffet are unreal-- I've heard talk of almost an hour to get in-- so schedule accordingly.

If you want a somewhat different all-you-can-eat experience, I will recommend Samba at Mirage-- a Brazilian-style churrascaria with a rod&iacute;zio option (servers come to <i>you</i> with different scrumptious meat options). And not a steam table to be seen. You can safely skip the buffet at Mirage; I was underwhelmed.

As you can see, this can be a tough question because everybody's tastes are different. I forgot to mention that we also found the Aladdin to be pretty good too, as well as Paris, Mandalay Bay, Treasure Island, and Mirage. I believe the buffets at Treasure Island and Mirage are similar now. We've also heard that the seafood buffet at Rio (not the big buffet) is pretty good too, but we've never tried that one.

Rjw has a good suggestion too as far as the Brazilian restaurant. I'm sure you've also heard of the popular one at Mandalay Bay called Rumjungle. Same idea as Samba.

Agree that the Bellagio has one of the best buffets around. Went there for breakfast, and the food was outstanding -- smoked salmon, fresh-baked croissants . . . Yum! My sister &amp; B-I-L travel to LV fairly regularly, and they have said good things about Bally's champagne buffet . . . a little on the pricey side, but the food was excellent.

I have been DYING to try a churrascaria, but am afraid that D.C./Balto is quite behind the times in this regard. BUT, there is one in Rockville called Green Field Churrascaria. Apparently, they have 2 west coast sites -- with one being in your backyard . . . Am wondering if you have been there? What do you think? Is it worth the $$? If the food's excellent, should I have some emergency Lipitor on hand?!? :)

Buffets tend to be ... well, buffets. Not impressed with Bellagio (quality of ingredients was good, execution mediocre) -- and Bally's is brunch so that won't work for dinner. May add that we really were pleased with the Sterling brunch; exceptionally good, fresh, inventive with DRY bottomless champagne. I believe we ate for about 3 hours ... and it wasn't any more expensive than a regular dinner with a fairly good bottle of wine in most Strip restaurants.

Well, ahem, we actually did. Waiter never batted an eyelid, but just kept doing champagne and later coffee refills -- no rush here which was refreshing. And it wasn't that service wasn't attentive -- it was stellar.

Perhaps I should add that DS and I were the only ones who lasted. The GF and DD took off for the slots after about an hour and a half.

Perhaps you should look on the ATL GTG web page for my photo, and then you won't be so astonished :)

LT: I haven't been to the Long Beach Greenfield yet (it's on the list, since we liked Samba so much). I have been prowling the Chowhound LA board and the buzz there is good-- the Fogo de Ch&atilde;o chain is the Gold Standard in the US, but this is supposed to be nearly as good. Friends who have gone to Greenfield love it, so we'll give it a try soon.

Do they make a Morning-After Lipitor for Brazilian rod&iacute;zio? Maybe they should! Then again, the caipirinha hangover will have you ignoring the cholesterol spike...!!! ;)

Just returned from near 2 weeks in Vegas and these are the buffets I tried in the order in which I preferred them (the first 2 were far and away the best):

1) Paris Village Buffet
2) Aladdin Spice Market
3) Mirage Cravings
4) Mandalay Bay
5) MGM Grand

My husband and I went in September 2004 and tried the following buffets:

1) Bellagio - Reasonable food, horrendous wait time, badly laid out in my opinion. As everything was on different stations, you queued for your meat for a few minutes and by the time you had then gotten to the potato/veg area, the meat was cold (or vice versa). The only part that this did not affect was the salad. I just found it really awkward to move around without bumping in to people (and I'm not particularly large or clumsy!)

2) Cafe Lago at Caesars Palace - loved it. Nice relaxing atmosphere, cheaper prices and yummy food...

3) Cravings at Mirage - 7 out of 10. It was nice, and fun having all the different food types to choose from, but I felt the seating was very canteen-like, making a somewhat expensive restaurant feel like an airport food court.

Just my opinions, I am a really, *really* fussy eater so not always as good with actual food reviews, lol!

If you enjoy seafood try the Seafood Buffet at the Rio. It's outstanding.
