beth_fitz Apr 23rd, 2008 11:07 AM

We have not stayed there but I sure do like the public areas.

milemarker0 Apr 23rd, 2008 11:31 AM

Mandalay Bay and THEHotel are nice, but some people don't like the south strip location.

MaliaBrody Apr 24th, 2008 08:22 AM

yeah i wanted to see the pool to but i got distracted with everything else, i wanted to see what the wavepool looked liked

GoTravel Apr 24th, 2008 08:51 AM

Vegas never really did it for me until a recent trip.

Now I can't wait to go back.

wildblueyonder Apr 24th, 2008 10:29 AM

What was it that 'did it for you' this time, GoTravel? We went there in 2004, just for one night, and I can't say I felt I ever wanted to return! But we are stopping there again, just for an overnight, in a couple months time, staying at Caesars. Can't say I'm looking forward to it one bit!

I was always kind of blah about Vegas because I'm not really a gambler and out there a $100 bill is just like a quarter anywhere else.

I think since it just went so upscale and the fact that I absolutely LOVE The Wynn and the Las Vegas Marathon was so fun.

Plus we went out there with 20 people.

However, I had the most fun downtown on Freemont Street. I just LOVE the tackiness and smokey old Vegasness of Binions and those other old time casinos.

It was just my husband and I that went downtown.

My experience was really a "Only In Vegas" experience. Especially the marathon. THAT was surreal!

I always stay at the Mandalay Bay when I go to Vegas because my son loves it so much. The wave pool is the big draw. If I ever go without him, I am staying at the Wynn!

MaliaBrody Apr 25th, 2008 10:15 AM

did u did u get a chance to go to eat at the Rumjungle room

ncounty Apr 25th, 2008 10:57 AM

No, I haven't eaten there yet. We usually do the buffet at their Bayside room....it is awesome! Really a relative value when you consider how expensive a la carte meals at the nice restaurants can add up to.

MaliaBrody Apr 29th, 2008 10:49 AM

when do you normally go to vegas

ncounty Apr 29th, 2008 02:06 PM

Whenever, we normally go, it is always too hot!! I have gone in early September around Labor day and I have gone in April...already too hot....and I've gone in July, of course, too hot!! Like 115 degrees. But, my son loves going to Mandalay Bay for their wave pool so we have to go when it is operational. I have to go into the pool and lazy river myself every 10 minutes because I am too hot. I have a low tolerance for heat though which is why I live in San Diego. My son loves the bathrooms in the room at Mandalay Bay with a large soaking bathtub and TV!

I live in Vegas and still, DH and I have stayed at Mandalay Bay! Ha! The wave pool is the best part about staying there. Although, I really enjoy the restaurants too - Strip Burger, Burger Bar and The Noodle Shop are my favorites. Shopping is blah there IMO, but I really enjoy it there. Still haven't seen Shark Reef though...

yea thats one thing i didnt do too,

Las Vegas is a town of many, many secrets. Secrets of how to get in the best nightclubs w/o waiting, secrets about security-there are so many undercover cops you'd never know from every branch of governement...secrets to get room upgrades, etc. Secrets to many hotels, eg, the Wynn has a caste system according to tiers of wealth.

It is probably the last town where tips to get you where/what you want & is an accepted/anticipated policy. You have to know who to give it to though, most people don't. You have to learn for yourself;)

The Wynn is currently the place for dining and to see/be seen. The nightclubs basically have a trade of where to go on each night. Weekends are free-for-alls.

Went "window shopping" at the Wynn and spotted a gorgeous (huge) yellow SouthSeas pearl choker in the window of a posh jewelry store. I was ga-ga over it & prodded my husband to inquire of the sales mgr how much it was (yeah, I know, if you have to ask....) but the kicker was the woman took such great delight in telling me it was $350,000. Holy crow! That's half of a house in L.A.!

Yes, Ryan must have looked at that same necklace. He posted a thread a few months ago about do you ever tell a white lie based on that.
