Vareki- Suffolk downs dinner?? tonight!
I am taking my parents into Boston to see Cirque du Soleil. It is at Suffolk downs and I was hoping to find someplace to take them to dinner. They DONT like expensive no matters whos paying and I love GREAT food so I am a bit stuck normally.
Any reasonable places near by?? Or just some place thats a fairly easy drive to Suffolk downs? Any suggestions appreciated. |
Gee um, not much in East Boston, there are a few restaurants in the square close to the Orient Heights train station, so you might look in that area.
There are also a few along Revere Beach which is not a far drive. You also might try Anthony's in Swampscott, which is not a long drive along Rever Beach, though Lynn heading up the coast, you can't miss Anthony's it is on the water just over the Swampscott line. |
Day Square has Mario's - its good Italian and on Saratoga St - just outside the square - is Rino's - its the best Italian restaurant anywhere in Boston (sshhh don't tell anyone ;-))Lunch entrees run about $8-12, dinner is probably more $18-22 but its excellent. Order the open seafood ravioli if its a special - fresh shrimp, lobster, scallops on a sheet of homemade pasta with the best marscapone cream sauce.
Or how about Billy Tse's in Revere for the best Chinese food in the area. And there's always the 99 - there's one near Wonderland. |
Oh - just remembered Uncle Pete's Barbeque also in Day Square - not much to look at but the ribs and pulled pork are very good. And there's Jeveli's too - blue hair red sauce Italian but not bad. Also in Day Square.
I work less than a mile away so I've eaten at all of these places for years. |
I can't offer any additional places, but I can urge you NOT to travel the seven miles to Anthony's in Swampscott. It's not worth the trip! Its quality has really tumbled since its golden days.
|
There's Jevelli's(or Gevelli's?) also in Day Square. The food is decent and not expensive.
|
Thank you everyone!! I may try Rino's!!
|
If you do go to Rino's call for directions - unless you know Eastie well. Its not hard to find but its not in Day Square - its a couple of blocks away. Its a small place on the first floor of a 3family.

I haven't been there in a while, but Santarpio's (between the tunnel exit and the airport) has always had fantastic pizza and other good Italian choices. Almost always a (quick-moving) line, which is another indicator of a good neighborhood restaurant.

Rizzuto- Santarpio's looked very interesting
We got in crazy traffic and just had time for dinner but there was a line out the door and looked like a great choice! Again thanks for the help , we did Rinos and it was perfect. |
Glad you enjoyed Rino's. I've never had a bad meal there and I've eaten there weekly for years. Love the fusilli, shrimp and broccoli. C0-worker can't pass up on the fruite de mari (ignore my horrible spelling).
How was Vareki? |
The show was pretty good. But the seats made me a bit miserable. It was the tightest seating. I was SO squished i couldnt lean left or right and I had someone head smack dab in front of me.I had to sit on the edge of my seat cuz i couldnt fit in with the big guy next to me (I'm not very big 5'1" 110)
I was in second row so it wasnt staduim-like seating yet. My folks loved it tho so it was all worth it! Thanks again |
