Vancouver to San Fran

Hi to all, Looking for 3 stops along the way to break up the drive. Have 2 kids (maybe the dog). Any notes on best stops, activities for kids etc. and also can anyone recommend a dog kennel that is really great.
Many thanks.

First, this -

Coast or inland? Time of year?

We keep on the lookout for places that we'll enjoy, along with a chance to let our wee dug off the lead. Good off-leash dog parks in the Seattle and Portland areas, some excellent ones around Sacramento, rather scarce in the rest of Oregon and N. California.

If coast, I would go with one stop around Portland, another on the S. Oregon coast, then a third around Ft. Bragg if you take SR 1, otherwise somewhere in the Eureka area, so that you can spend a slow day going through the Redwoods.

If inland, one at Portland, another around Ashland, a third (if necessary) somewhere around the Napa or Sonoma Valley, or else cut over to the coast at Grants Pass (OR - backtrack from Ashland) then repeat the Eureka suggestion above.

If you stop in Grant's Pass, the Riverside Inn is nice for families. You could take the jet boats that leave from the dock there. www.riverside-inn.com :)

In Ashland, the Plaza Inns & Suites is very nice. Have fun! ***kim*** ((#))

As promised here is the summary of our holiday.
Departed raining Vancouver day and decided to head to Lake Tahoe skiing. One stop in Portland at Fairfield Inn. Ok for $54/night. Then to ashland. Did stay at the Plaza. Thanks for that but thought the bed too small although the room was very nice. Then to Reno. Got a great rate via hotels.com for $35 at Atlantis. The kids loved it. Arrived Lake Tahoe during a blizzard but the next 2 days for skiing were brilliant. Best ever. Stayed at the Horizon. A sub-par casino. Not recommended. Returned via the coast as the weather was much better. Very nice coastal towns and great scenery. The dune buggies at Dune city were a hit as well along with stopping at the lighthouses. Great trip. Happy travelling.

For gambling you should've gone across the street to Caesar's, much better!

The bed was too small? You could request a King next time! ***kim*** ((f))
