valley of fire-las vegas
 

Will be visiting Las Vegas first week in June and have always wanted to visit this park. Is it too hot at this time of year? Can you drive, get out and walk 10 minutes at various locations and see most of the park? Don't mind that it is very hot but are walks doable or is it just too much. Thanks

Red Rock Canyon (which I prefer) isn't so far from Las Vegas and can be enjoyed from your car and/or short walks.

We went to the Valley of Fire during the first week of May. It was got sort of hot during the day. Just make sure you have lots of water with you. Get itat one of the convenience stores before you leave Las Vegas. We kept thinking we'd wait until the next store, and finally we ran out of stores and had no water!

But it is beautiful, and we're planning on going there again. We were able to get out and hike some, and climb rocks, but we were limited because of not having water.

There are great hikes in Valley of Fire - and some of my favorites were short. There is a trail called Mouse's Tank with lots of interesting sandstone formations and lots of petroglyphs. I think that's only .5 - 1 mile round trip. Another hike, I'm pretty sure it's a mile, also, is White Domes, where you briefly walk through a slot canyon.

It will be hot - try to get there early.

The trip is next week and I see it will be hot. We will be going directly from airport. Presume can buy water somewher off main road before we get to park.

It depends on how you drive there. If you come up I-15, there is a convenience store right at the I-15 exit for Valley of Fire. If you come up the NPS road along Lake Mead, get your water before you leave las Vegas. In that direction, there are no stores once you get in the park except for marina stores which will be out of the way.

There's quite a bit to see just from the road, and there are several pretty short walks from the road. Mouse Tank (as already suggested) and Atlatl Rock are short - Atlatl is maybe a couple hundred feet and 50 stairs.

Yes, it'll be pretty hot but if you go in the morning you'll beat the worst of the heat. There is water available in the park (if you bring your own containers) at the visitor center and Atlatl Rock, but apparently bees like to hang out near the faucets so caution is advised. Or, like dwooden said, there is a gas station/store at the Valley of Fire exit off of I-15.
