Valdez hikes
 

We will have a free day between driving down the Richardson Highway from Fairbanks on Thurs 6/23 and taking the ferry across to Whittier on Sat 6/25.

At first I was leaning towards kayaking, but since we'll be on the water Saturday, now I'm thinking a hike might be nice. Any suggestions for something 3-6 hrs long, moderate difficulty?

Some trails we hiked and enjoyed are Goat Trail, Pack Trail, Solomon Gulch, Shoup Trail, Mineral Creek Trail, East and West Dike Trail.

We just learned there are new rules on taking your car on a ferry so make certain your rental company allows its cars to be transported on a ferry. We been told those companies that not allow to take its cars on a ferry also have tracking devises.

Wow, that would be a bummer, not to be able to take the ferry. I guess I'd better check in with Alamo.

Ceejay_ky, did you decide which hikes are the most appealing to you?

I liked the sound of Mineral Creek and also Sheep Creek and Twelve Mile Trail. When you hiked Shoup Bay, did you do the turnoff to the beach? If so, is it a nice view?

We took a long walk on the beach. When we started out everything was covered with fog, then as fog began to lift we watched the most amazing show with views changing every minute. There is also a short, easy walk right in town, Dock Point Trail, where you could often see sea otters.
