Vail - Savory Inn

Heading out to Vail for a week soon and thinking of stayiing at this B&B- formerly the Black Bear Inn. Has anyone stayed here recently? Or- the Lodge and Spa at Cordillera?

Havent stayed at either, but the locations and lodging are drastically different. The Savory Inn is in a residential area of West Vail about a mile & 1/2 from the Vail Village. There is bus service, but it would probably more convenient with a car. The Savory Inn is a log cabin B & B. Small, intimate. Cordillera is at the summit in Edwards. Beautiful views, full service (restaurants, spa, pool, etc) in a gated with access to 4 golf courses. BUT, its about 15-20 minutes to Vail, a little less to Beaver Creek. They have a private shuttle, but a car would be more convenient. Its comparing apples to oranges - very different. What are you looking for? Full service luxury, nightlife, close to restaurants and shopping...?

Thank you for your response. Probably a few nites of luxury (cordillera) and a fewer simpler evenings closer to Vail. I have stayed at the Sitzmark in the Village and the rates can't be beat. Location is good. The Savory Inn sounds charming...but if they are right on the road way..not my thing. The other spot I was thinking of is the Inn at Minturn. Do you know anything about it?

The Savory Inn is in a residential area but is close (might be on) the creek, set in a bit from the roadway. They were bought out by a chef that hosts other chefs from around the Valley for cooking classes during the weekend. This Saturday's class sounds great, but alas, other plans. The Inn at Minturn is right on Main Street (Hwy 6 & 24) more laid back than Savory (definitely more than Cordillera). Minturns a funky old RR town = good Mexican food at the Saloon, cook your own steak place Minturn Country Club across the street. (Not really a CC). Great little market on Saturdays across from the Inn. Havent been in the Inn at Minturn though. Looks cute. You'll need a car to get into Vail or BC.

Thanks! Was planning on a car. All 3 sound lovely...may take chances the week of the 10-18 and try to get just in time hotel rates...any thoughts on no reservations that time of year?

Jill - I'm still not sure what type of accomm you prefer. But along the lines of a luxury type resort vs a B & B, take a look at the Sonnenalp. Beautiful hotel in the heart of Vail Village. I like the Bavaria Haus over the other bldgs. Sundays they used to include a huge brunch in rates. The Vail Farmers Mkt (small but interesting) is right in front of the hotel on Sundays.

Jillc1,

We have stayed at Cordillera many times and love it. Though a little drive to Vail, the Lodge and Spa offer something for everyone. The area is beautiful, the rooms fabulously comfortable, the views terrific and the spa facilities and restaurant great.

The hotel is so comfortable in fact, that we always go there intending to spend time in Vail but sometimes never make it. Expensive? Sure. But it's a great place to pamper oneself.

This message is from so long ago; i never looked at it after my last post and so much has changed. My vacation plans were stopped in their tracks. On june 23, 2003, my brother called me at work to tell me our Mother had passed away; (not a good place to find out the death of ones parent.) I left work that day never to return which was not a bad thing. In December; I decided to visit friends in Vail for Christmas. I drove out; and stayed 5 months! I rented a home in Cordillera for the entire winter; it was very beautiful and therapeutic. I tried so hard to get a job out there in my industry but could not and now live in Naples FL- a fluke- not on my planning list of places to live in but its ok... cant' do much skiing here tho!
