Vail in May

Planning a long weekend in May in Vail and need some direction on activities. Like hiking, rafting, etc. Any ideas are helpful.

Vail can be chilly in May (average highs 56 and average lows 27). It should not be crowded since May is the so-called 'mud season' between ski season and summer activities. Most likely too early for rafting and hiking trails will probably still have snow on them.

You might check with your hotel to see what activities they would recommend.

If you want to drive about an hour west on I-70 you could go the the hot springs pool at Glenwood. http://www.hotspringspool.com/

When in May?

There can be a whole lot of difference (re: activities) between the beginning of May and the end of May.

The end of May could have some rafting on the Eagle River just west of Vail, depending on the prevailing weather.

As mentioned by martym, Glenwood Springs is about an hour drive west of Vail on I-70, with the last 16 miles coursing through beautiful Glenwood Canyon.
