Do you mean Vegas?

Jennifer Jan 26th, 2000 07:41 AM

Hi Bob.... I am a frequent traveler to Las Vegas and even though the dining experience has been declining over the past 10 years I have still been able to enjoy several meals there. A couple of suggestions; one is the Buccaneer Bay Club at Treasure Island, I always enjoy my meal there, it is romantic and yet entertaining at the same time. If you get a table by the small windows you can see the pirate show from them. The food is excellent and the wine is also very good. If you like italian Il Fornio at NY NY is good also Fiore at the Rio is excellent but pricey. The Fiore is romantic, and also has a wine cellar. If you want to stray off the strip to to Las Vegas.com there are a list of great restaurants at a more resonable price. Good luck.. j

Bob -

I too go to Vegas often. Been twice this year already and will be back again in a few weeks.

Agree with Buccaneer Bay Club, it's very good and I love the decor. Very cozy.

If you like seafood, Emeril's at the MGM is good, but for the money, you can probably do better.

At Ceasar's Forum Shops, Bertolini's is one of my old standby's. Been going there for a long time. Excellent Creme Brulee.

At the Venetian, Pinot Brasserie was excellent. We had some of the most tender filet I'd ever had there. It was sliced and served with an herb sauce. My husband and I were both astonished because it was so close to a dish we had had in Paris last. Wonderful! It was called Hanger Steak but, unfortunately, they frequently change the menu so there's no telling if they'll have it.

I haven't been to the Top of the World restaurant at the Stratosphere but you may want to look into. The restaurant is 1,000ish feet up and it rotates one full circle every 1 1/2 hours. It's supposed to be gourmet. I saw a snipet on the Food Network about it and have been wanting to try it. It would certainly be a romantic view. You might check into it and see if anyone has tried it.

Good Luck!

Responding to the previous post about Top of the World restaurant at Stratosphere - the atmosphere and view are fantastic, certainly worth a visit, but only to have coffee and dessert or a drink. Our group of 8 ate dinner there last summer, and not one of us had a very good meal. My plate was returned to the kitchen because of a small bug crawling on my food; then my baked potato ($6.00 each for a plain potato) was so raw that neither the waiter nor I could cut into it with a knife, so that was returned to the kitchen also. To make up for these problems (among others) the waiter was allowed to offer us anything from the dessert tray. I must admit these desserts were delicious (we split three among the eight of us). So again, I wouldn't advise anyone to eat dinner there, but go right at sunset and watch the sun go down over the mountains while the lights are coming on all over Las Vegas in the dusk, and eat some lovely desserts.
Go to Palace Court at Ceasars Palace, Napa Restaurant at Rio-also go to the Wine Cellar first to enjoy wines by the glass or a selection-very romantic .Drai's at Barnabys Coast is a hidden treasure. Enjoy.

We stayed at the Bellagio in March '99 and we loved the restaurant there called Jasmine. It is SO pretty inside--very romantic--get a window on the lower split level to get a view of the fantastic Bellagio fountains. The restaurant is all light pink and off-white, very Asian and probably one of the pretties restaurants I've been in. The food was good too!! Olives in the Bellagio is also very good and fun, but maybe not as romantic as Jasmines. E-mail me if you want more info. Have fun.

No, Lori, that's Vages in Naveda!

Lori Jan 31st, 2000 08:37 AM

Oh, I git it!!!!!!

maggi Jan 31st, 2000 03:29 PM

You two just couldn't resist the low blow, could you? Well I'll say what surely everyone else is thinking... Lori, your web address (i.e. "nospam") is a little ironic isn't it? I know of a few teenybopper chat rooms you two would love.

lynn Jan 31st, 2000 06:04 PM

Bob -

Skip Olives.

$100+ for 2 and you feel like you're at a popular chain restaurant such as T.G.I.F. NOT worth the money. Especially when this town is starting to overflow with elegant, quality places to eat.

It's amazing to think that just 10 years ago it was practically unheard of to spend anywhere near $100 for dinner. I remember when $50-$60 (for 2, no drinks) got you a seat at almost the best place in town. Boy have times changed.....These days, that just barely starts scratching the surface!

Good luck picking.

Lori, thank you for point out that typo, although I am sure that the fact that is was a typo instead of stupidity disapoints you.

Gee, Maggi, I'm sorry our little bit of good-natured humor upset. Get a life! But, first, two things:
1.Please explain what you mean when you say that Lori's email address "no spam" is a little ironic.
2. I don't know of any teenybopper chats rooms. Perhaps, you can give some suggestions from your experience!
C'mon, Maggi, lighten up! (Actually, I thought the "Naveda" line was kind of clever!)

Maggie Jan 31st, 2000 06:50 PM
I am surprised that kids would find a site like this one of any interest. As compared to those stimulating teeny bopper chat rooms.

Now, to the point, thank you for your comment and all the others that were more concerned about trying to help than be critical.

Kind of like the 'Yale Lawyer' I had: He just got of yail and was looking for a yob.
The thing I find most fascinating about the Fodors forums is the differences between the various geographical sites. I am a regular on the Europe site, where we always have alot of good natured nudging, winking and general humor going on. Twice now on the US Forum I have been ostracized for inputting a little humor in my messages. So, Maggie, when I originally replied to Bob's message I really did want to know if he meant Las Vegas or somewhere else that maybe I hadn't known about. That said, I will return to the Europe Forum where the participants have much more tolerance and a sense of humor.

Lori Feb 1st, 2000 04:59 AM

By the way Bob, Las Vegas is really a fun place. I have been there 5 times and plan to return in February. (I have also travelled extensively throughout Europe and the US) The restaurants are mostly good. Try any in Bellagio, Emerils in the MGM, Drais in the Barbary Coast, and 2 restaurants in Paris. One is in the Eiffel Tower and the other is called Rotisserie Des Artistes.

Now, Maggie (or is Maggi?--you've signed both ways, or is one of you an imposter?), again I'm confused about a posting of yours. What are you trying to say? Again, I don't understand your posting? And again, I also ask, "How do you know so much about the teenybopper chatrooms?"
Anyway, lighten up!
Noah, thanks for adding to the GOOD-NATURED fun!

noname Feb 1st, 2000 05:07 AM

Lori, don't leave! I too am a regular on the European forum and agree with you. We need some of that European fun on this forum as well! And, believe me, my intent--despite Maggi's comments--is good-natured fun. (I use my "real" name and address when giving serious responses, but never when criticizing or having good, clean fun even since I was seriously and viciously spammed for doing it!)
Damn it, I should have to explain myself!
