Vacationing In Carmel by the Sea
Planning a trip to Carmel by the Sea second wk in December and looking for a nice and reasonably priced place to stay for a few nights. Any suggestions? There were several B&Bs listed in the area that seem very nice. Looking for any suggestions in or outside of town. Thanks!

I like these two:

Hi Jean! Thanks for the message. We are probably aiming around $150/night or so as a ballpark. The links you sent look wonderful, I will definitely check them out.
If you have any thoughts on "must sees" that you liked, please let me know. Thanks! |
When we go to Carmel, I like to think there's nothing we "must" do. But if you haven't been there before, here are a few things we enjoy:
17-Mile Drive Carmel Mission Pt. Lobos Reserve A little farther away: Monterey Aquarium Pacific Grove Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary If the weather's nice, the butterfly sanctuary should be great. It's an area of P.G. with eucalyptus and pine trees where the monarchs over-winter. Ridge Rd. between Lighthouse and Short. Take binoculars. |
We live in Pacific Grove. Go to www.pacificgrove.org for some good hotel recommendations.
ASILOMAR is an historic area across from the ocean. Rustic, but nice. Monterey Bay Aquarium is a must. |
Been happy with the Village Inn and the Dolphin in Carmel. The upper floors at the Dolphin have ocean view.

The Tickle Pink Inn is very nice and less expensive than the Highland's Inn next door. La Playa is also a property where we have enjoyed staying. We will be back in Carmel soon, can't wait! ***kim*** ((l))

We stayed in Pacific Grove on our trip this year and loved it! We stayed at Seven Gables Inn

In your price range, we liked our two stays here: http://www.carmelgardencourtinn.com/

We had a very nice stay at the Carmel Valley Ranch Resort, we spontaneously checked in after dinner at Citronelle which was amazing. We got our Suite for #125/night, there is a $25/night resort fee as well. Beautiful lobby and reception area here and excellent food for dinner and breakfast. Weather was warm and sunny for us. :)
Carmel is decorated for Christmas and they had their tree lighting ceremony this past Fri. night. Go to the carmelcaliforniadotcom website for some good coupons for shopping. ***kim*** ((f)) |
Be sure to go to the Inn at Spanish Bay before sunset to see/hear the bagpiper pipe the golfers off the course. Dress warmly--try to get one of the outdoor firepit seats. Second vote for Asilomar--very cool grounds.

Does anyone have a sugestion for good rate on the water waterfront hotel, B&B in this area?
|
1JAR, I think the Tickle Pink Inn and Highlands Inn are the only hotels overlooking the ocean in the Carmel area, maybe the La Playa in certain rooms.
There is a new Intercontinental Hotel in Monterey, the Clement with oceanview rooms, some with balconies and fireplaces. AAA rates aren't bad. It looks like a refurbished property near the Aquarium. |

The B&B that DebitNM mentions is located across the road from the ocean. Most of the rooms have wonderful ocean views. Inn at Spanish Bay is oceanfront. Lodge at Pebble Beach is located oceanfront. Monterey Plaza Hotel is located right on the Bay by Cannery Row. Check them for specials. |
The front desk person at Intercontinental advised me to check Travel Zoo for great rates on rooms there, he said they are offering 25% discounts on their restaurant and spa with the Travel Zoo deals. La Playa does have oceanview rooms but nothing like TPI and Highland's Inn. The Plaza is very nice and has beautiful views from their entire property. ***kim*** ((f))
