Vacation properties in the Keys - specifically Key West

Hi all,

Does anyone here have experience with buying/owning a vacation property in the Keys - most likely Key West?

My parents are looking to buy a vacation property, and I don't know what the market is like down there - are there a lot of existing home sales, anything new being built (including condos)... what is it like down there? Pretty saturated?

Where would you suggest they look, if not Key West? (is it too built up, touristy, etc etc)

I think my Dad is pretty psyched about finding something there though.

thanks for any help you may have.

Beth

Property in Old Town Key West is some of the most expensive property in the country. At one time, it WAS the most expensive. My husband and I picked up a real estate book the first time we were there - this was several years ago - and saw a 1,000 square foot house for nearly a million dollars! Granted, that's the exception rather than the rule, but 2 bedroom condos on the Gulf in Truman Annex run around $750,000. Try doing a web search for sales in that area...you'll probably get lots of information.

Beth-Property anywhere in the Keys is expensive and if they are looking to rent it out, they have stringent rules and regulations.
