Vacation apartment in Brooklyn

There are 4 of us coming to NYC on 12 April for seven nights. We would like to rent a stylish/modern 2br apartment in Brooklyn and are so far not having much luck. We have tried:

Craigs list
VRBO
City sonnets
NY Habitat
Cloud nine rentals
Etc
Etc

Does anyone know anywhere/anyone with such a thing? I also liked the look of http://www.houseon3st.com/ but this is booked.

Originally we were looking at Lower East side and could be tempted back but Brooklyn looked like the right mix of lively/homey.

Budget is c$3000 for the week.

Best wishes,

Clare

Although they don't have a 2 BR apartment, the Park Slope Inn (www.parkslopeinn.com) has a floor-through garden space, which you might perhaps supplement with one of their private rooms. Very reasonable rates for the quality of accomodations. We really enjoyed the garden apartment, and the surrounding neighborhood is very nice, with lots of restaurants, shops, etc.

Thank you - I have bookmarked it as a back up as it does look nice.

I think picking a specific location is always a problem. Sounds like you just want somewhere not too touristy. What's wrong with this place in Tribeca?

Thanks for these suggestions. In the end I posted an advert on craigs list saying what I wanted and when and have had lots of great apartments sent through.

That's great. Hope you'll use us to help you decide. Please be careful before parting with money. ;)

Hi Clarered!

How well do you know Brooklyn? The borough is HUGE! Some of the neighborhoods are quite beautiful, but there are others that are still pretty charmless. And still others can take over an hour to get into Manhattan by subway.

I assume that you know about this, but felt that I should mention it anyway. Wouldn't want you to be duped into something less than reputable and have it ruin your vacation.

For $3000 I'm tempted to kick out my roommates and let you stay at my place! ; )

Never mind "charmless", there are some areas which are downright _dangerous_!

shirley82 Jan 26th, 2007 06:48 AM

I was trying to be a little less blunt, in the interest of not scaring Clare off....but yes, that's pretty much what I was going for.

Swaying_Palms Jan 26th, 2007 07:47 AM

Well, since charm is highly subjective, I am sure there there must be some safe areas as well which some people find "charmless".

shirley82 Jan 26th, 2007 08:20 AM

Agreed. I suppose you could say Williamsburg is safe, but I don't find it particularly charming - whatever it's other merits may be.

And I actually find Williamsburg to be charming but not extra safe!
