Yes I agree, one day for Gettysburg is enough but make sure you to have some kind of a tour either with a guide or the tape. It is really hard to visualize what happened there without some explaination.

When we were in Williamsburg we only had one day. I wish we had more time. If there are young girls ages 7-12 and they know about American girls (which I would be surprised if they didn't) Williamsburg is the home of Felicity. At the visitor center they will give the girls a pamphlet, like a map, that will lead them to different shops to find items like Felicity had. My daughter really enjoyed looking for them.

Have a great trip. It's a great area. Pretty and full of history.

If by chance you exit Skyline Drive at route 211 and head west toward New Market, consider visiting the New Market Battlefield. This is the site the young cadets from VMI marched to.

Another place of interest, heading north, is Belle Grove Plantation, a National Historical Site. This is where the Battle of Cedar Creek took place and is less than an hour from New Market located on route 11 between Strasburg and Middletown. It is also on the way to Harpers Ferry.
