Utahtea: Your opinion please

Do you feel that spending one day at South rim, one at north rim, two at Zion, one at Bryce, one driving from Bryce to Green River with a stop at Capitol Reef, one at Arches and one at Canyonlands is enough time at each place? We won't be hiking, but will do the easier walks listed in the travel books at each park. Arrival at the North rim would be about noon as we are going the long way through Page. Are we leaving enough time to see things along the way to Green River, or should we split the drive and stay over in Torrey? Many thanks for your help.

Hi Ronk,

If you plan to make it from the S. Rim to the N. Rim via Page, AZ and you want to make it there around noon you will have to leave the S. Rim around 5:00 A.M. and just drive without spending time siteseeing.

I would skip the N. Rim and spend time stopping at the scenic overlooks on the S. Rim as you exit on the way to Hwy 89. There are a lot of good overlooks. I would suggest spending the night in Page, AZ.

It's a lot of slow driving to the N. Rim and you will have already had the best views at the S. Rim. When you leave Page, take Hwy 89 thought Kanab, Utah to get to Zion. This route is faster and more scenic than the drive to the N. Rim.

I would also spend the night in Torrey instead of Green River. There is a lot to see on scenic Hwy 12 and Capitol Reef. Green River itself is kind of barren.

Other wise the trip sounds very do able.

Thankyou Utahtea. I figured about six hours frm SR to NR via Kanab. I should have added that we have additional time available if needed. We decided to drive to San Diego from Virginia for a reunion so we could go to the parks on the return trip. Whether the entire trip takes twenty three days or twenty six doesn't matter.

I think it will be more like 7 1/2 of just driving hours from SR to NR via Kanab. If you have the extra time spend a night at Lake Powell before going to the NR so you can enjoy the scenic overlooks as you exit the SR. I would also recommend a boat trip on the Lake, even if it's one of the short ones.

The drive to the NR is VERY slow. The 42 miles from Jacobs lake to the N. Rim overlook is a slow windy road.
