Heading out of Page this morning we did two short hikes that were new to us.
The "New" Wave which is really Beehive trail. I haven't done the actual Wave but don't think this is comparable. However for a quick hike right in Page it had some interesting formations that created a small amphitheater like space. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fod...3a76315256.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fod...f7750f01b0.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fod...0d2dcf88b6.jpg The other hike we did was the Nautilus. This was a fairly small formation. Just look for the opening in the rock. The walk leading to it was pretty as well. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fod...1681ed0083.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fod...dbd8c3157b.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fod...614190278c.jpg |
Did you do Devils Garden or Willis Creek slot canyon the last time you were in Escalante?
Patty - No, we only had one full day and spent it hiking Lower Calf Creek Falls and driving Burr Trail Road. I'll take a look. I didn't realize you were on the road right now - great photos, thanks for sharing. Great suggestions, thanks. I've added them to my ever evolving itinerary. |
Just checked my notes - I think we missed Devil's Garden because Hole-in-the-Rock road was impassable due to rain.
Would you suggest two or three nights in Kanab? Once I make that decision, I think we're ready to book. |
Yeah getting to Devils Garden, Willis Creek, Buckskin Gulch, Wire Pass, Edmaiers, Old Paria, Nautilus will all be weather permitting,
I would do 3 nights in Kanab. I like Kanab as a town better than Page. |
Thanks Patty, we've started to book.
Looks like one night GJ, two nights Torrey, three nights Bryce (having discovered yesterday that it's closer to Kodachrome Basin State Park than Escalante, and having stayed there last year we know of a good hotel with good rates in Jan), three nights Kanab, three Page, three Bluff, one Pagosa Springs. |
