UTAH-Park City/Salt Lake City Weather in May??

Will be traveling to Salt Lake City and Park City Mother's Day Weekend (May 8th), and since this is our first time to Utah, have no clue what the weather will be like.
Have been reading Utah spring weather is very unpredictable! Will there be snow in Park City or flowers blooming? Will Salt Lake City be warm? Not sure what to pack. We are staying 3 nights in the Park City area.

Thanks!

Did you look at the historical averages? Isn't that what people look at this far in advance?

If you are definitely travelling there what possible difference could it make if you know the weather now or one week before?

Before I travel someplace I usuall check the historical averages and then keep track of the averages v. the actual weather for a few weeks before.

What's left of the snow will be slushy and muddy. You probably won't see flowers blooming in Park City. May is generally not an attractive time to be there.

Hi Free,

I live in Park City and I actually love May! Yes, the early flowers will be blooming. Daffodils are already coming up in the sunny spots. We've had a much lower than normal snow year and the snow at my house at 6500 ft is nearly gone.

May is very green, the trees have leafed out and are all bright, spring green. Yes, the weather can be variable, could have rain, could have snow, but it would pass quickly. That's what altitude is all about.

SLC will be very pleasant, could always have a little rain.

I would bring a variety of clothing. Layers, layers, of all types.

Town will be very quiet. Summer activities and visitors don't really start until Memorial Day weekend. Some restaurants will be closed for their sping vacations. Plenty of other will be open and offering "two-fers".

Hiking and biking will depend on where you want to go. Probably some of the higher trails will still be snow covered.

Hope this helps.

I live in Salt Lake and I brought my baby daughter home from the hospital on May 9 in a Spring snow storm. But that is rare and usually May is warm during the day and cold at night.

I agree with Dayle. Bring lots of layers.

Hi Dayle!

Thanks all for your replies! I'm sure summer is best (after winter for skiing of course) time to visit Park City, but we are also doing southern UTAH this trip, and I think May will be perfect weather for Zion/Bryce, etc.

You are right. May is just about perfect for southern UT!
