"It does have amazing views, but the driver needs to keep their eyes on the road."

There were a few turnouts so the driver can see the views. Please use them and keep your eyes on the road while driving.

We did a similar trip just a few weeks ago, in an RV rental. The scenery on Hwy 12 was spectacular;but I don't even remember the Hogsback, so it could not have been very scary! We drove from Capitol Reef to Monument Valley in less than a day, stopping to at viewpoints along the way.One night was plenty at Gouldings...we enjoyed MV,and it was a "must see" for us due to our interest in the John Wayne westerns filmed there. We arrived mid-afternoon, toured the museum, gift shop, saw the John Wayne movie that evening, did the 1/2 tour with Gouldings the next morning and were on our way to the North Rim by about 1:30 in the afternoon.

Oops, my mistake in previous reply....we drove from Gouldings to Page and spent the night at Lake Powell, then drove to the North Rim the next day.

Thanks to all for the tips. What route would you reccommend from St. George to Bryce? Mapquest takes us on 9 thru Zion- seems to me avoiding that would be preferable. We will be there first part of Oct. so maybe traffic is not an issue.
Thanks again.

B,

You really should drive Hwy 9 through Zion. The views are beautiful and the tunnel is fun. Canyon Overlook hike is this way just out of the tunnel. Traffic is rarely a problem.

If you think you can have a decent tour of the wonders of Utah without driving on a road without a switchback or drop-off then you are choosing the wrong area to vacation.

As I asked before; how often, in your day-to-day driving do you accidentally drive off the road?

Try not to make too much of it bwg...it isn't such a big deal really.

hi wendylynne,

we'll be coming back to zion in april for 4 nights and was thinking about staying at flannigan's inn. I see you stayed there. How was your experience? we're thinking of just a standard king bed.

Thanks!
