I am planning a trip to the Grand Canton and Utah in July. This is my tenative itinerary. Please give advice as to what should be changed...
Day 1: Fly from NY to Vegas, spend night Day 2: Drive to Grand Canyon, spend night Day 3: Grand Canyon--late afternoon, drive to Page Day 4: Page Day 5: Monument Valley Day 6: Moab Day 7: Moab Day 8: Moab Day 9: Torrey Day 10: Bryce Day 11: Zion Day 12: Vegas Day 13: Vegas Day 14: Home Thank you for your help!! |
Looks good. I have a one comment and one question.
On the 12 Day when you are leaving Zion to drive to Las Vegas, I'd spend as much time in Zion as possible and leave around 3 or 4P.M. It's only a 3 hour drive to Vegas from Zion. What do you have planned for Page, AZ? Float trip, boat tour, slots canyon? Unless you plan on doing a 1/2 day float trip or all day boat tour to Rainbow Bridge National Monument...you won't need two nights. Utahtea |
I totally agree with Utahtea. Lake Powell is beautiful but you have to do something on or near the lake for you will be bored.

Thank you SO MUCH for your imput. In Page I want to ssee Antelope Canyon and do a boat trip, unless you recommend something better!!! Please let me know. Thanks again.

We didn't do as much as you are planning but you can search/see our trip report post under "Grand Canyon, Zion NP trip report". Antelope Canyon...both sections...are worth the drive in my opinion, but we didn't spend any more time in Page than the slot canyon tour. I enjoyed Zion NP more than anything else we saw, with Bryce a close second. Make sure you leave plenty of time for Zion.

The all day boat tour to Rainbow Bridge is one of my favorites! I haven't been on it since the drought so I haven't had to make the hike to see it. July can be HOT! If you do the all day boat tour, it might be hard to squeeze in the slots on the same day.
The 1/2 float trip on the Colorado river is also very good. Utahtea |
Thanks for the info..is it tooooo hot in july to do the rainbow bridge tour?

It's a 3 mile hike according to the Lake Powell website:
http://www.lakepowell.com/tours_scenic_cruises.php "Time spent at Rainbow Bridge is approximately 1 ½ hours . A box lunch is provided; vegetarian lunch box available with 24 prior notice before departure. Due to the lake level, a 1 ½ mile walk/hike (each way) is required both to and from Rainbow Bridge (total walking distance = 3 miles). " The last time we did the trip in 2001 the lake levels were high enough for the tour boat to dock within viewing distance of Rainbow Bridge, so we didn't have to hike. The boat tour is fantastic, but the hike will be hot. Utahtea |
