Bookmarking... I just came back from a brief roadtrip that only touched on Escalante. SO much more I want to see and your trip report added more to the list!

Great report, it looks like you both thoroughly enjoy yourselves, and that's awesome!

Incidentally, where do you hike in/near Austin?

We do alot of state parks for hiking but it is hot hot hot during summer so it doesn't last very long. It's a very different type of hot from Utah/Arizona. It's very humid and not as much fun. I do like Hamilton Pool as a good hiking area and there's a watering hole to swim in when you're good and sweaty!

Maria,
I enjoyed reading your post. My daughter and I spent Memorial Day Weekend in Moab and did some canyoneering with Deserthighlights also. We did Krill Canyon which is near Lomatium. I am replying to your post to encourage other people to try canyoneering. It was truly one of the most memorable things I have ever done and really wasn't as scary as I thought it would be. It is hiking on steroids. It ranks right up there with rafting the Grand Canyon. There are other companies in Utah that offer similar expeditions in different areas of Utah. In arches however, I would definately use Deserthighlights. They do a lot of there canyoneering right in Fiery Furnace. We plan on going back and doing Pleidades sometime. Although the Traverse at Medieval is high on our list also. May just have to do both of them.
