Utah Help Needed - Quick!
I just talked to Mr. Pickle, who suggested we head to southeastern Utah tomorrow afternoon.
My phone is out at home, so I am elsewhere and I don't have maps or anything handy. What's up there as far as state and/or national parks, places to stay, etc.?
I'll check here again later on dh's work computer. Any help y'all can give for a speedy trip will be greatly appreciated!

LeeAnn,
I love your screen name by the way. LOTR fan?
I don't know where you are heading from, but on Mem Day weekend, lodging choices are going to be basically zero.
Southeastern Utah would be the 4 corners area (Monument Valley), Lake Powell, Moab (Arches and Canyonlands Natl Parks). I would call ahead and see what you can get before going. May is prime time to visit the area, plus the long weekend = tons of people.
You would do much better to go after the weekend!

Hi Dayle,
Yes, I'm a big LotR fan!
That's sort of what I thought regarding lodging. I checked Choice Hotels' website, since we have a card with them, but they have nothing available.
I grabbed a guide book, since I'm at the library ;-) We would probably go to Canyonlands and Arches if we go. It's within easy driving distance for us, and we have Saturday afternoon through Tuesday off.
I'll keep looking - thanks for the help!

Lee Ann - don't know if they have room but call Kim and David at Cali Cochita B&B in Moab. http://www.moabdreaminn.com/
Tell them you are friend of mine. They have a beautiful place and you will be well cared for - especially for breakfast!

Another idea is to come up to Mesa Verde and stay in Cortez. The weather is beautiful and there's lot to do here.
Stay in Cortez, and see the sites. I think there is a rodeo this weekend at UTE Mtn. reservation.

Lee Ann,
Mesa Verde was my second thought for you guys!
Lots more lodging choices in that area. May and October are my favorite times for Moab. If you want to go on a holiday weekend, plan far ahead. Otherwise plan a little ahead and get a nice place, like Debit's recommendation.
I have another favorite B&B in Moab and I have decided to stop recommending them because now I can't get in!

What ever you do, don't go to Lake Powell this holiday weekend unless you like boats and crowds!
I'm with the crowd, Mesa Verde will probably be a good place to be. If you are into camping, you might be able to get a site. If you don't mind traveling a little farther south, we camped at Canyon de Chelly on Memorial Weekend a few years ago and you couldn't tell it was a holiday weekend there.
Good Luck!

Hurray, the phone is working again!
Utahtea, we don't camp, but we got a room at the Rodeway Inn in Cortez, which will work fine for us. Thanks for mentioning Canyon de Chelly - I haven't been there either. We're thinking of going up to Canyonlands one day; I'll mention Canyon de Chelly to Mr. Pickle as well.
Larry, we'll look into the guided tours.
Dayle, it's my favorite book too; my favorite characters are Aragorn and Frodo.
You all are great! Thanks so much.
