We went last weekend and it was nice. Yes it will be hot, look at where you are. But they have lots of trees, usually a breeze etc. It was nice and my kids never complaine about the heat, let's face it no humidity and more heat are not a bad combination.

You can collect rocks on BLM land. Outside of Rockville there's a dirt road up to Gooseberry Mesa where you can collect petifired wood. It's not the pretty stuff but our boys loved rock collecting. There are many other areas outside of parks where you can collect rocks.

utahtea, thanks for the rockville info. collecting is great fun.

i notice people taking a pailful or two of sand from our wonderful sleeping bear dunes or walking the beach and picking up petoskey stones for souveniers - so what?

how about a sense of humor here.
