Utah driving itinerary
I just sketched out a tentative plan for our November trip through Arizona and Utah. We are in our late 50's and walk several miles but are not serious hikers. I could add a day or so to the plan to prevent our rushing from place to place. How does this sound?
Day 1-2: Las Vegas (Paris) Day 3-4: Grand Canyon (El tovar) Day 5: Drive to Moab (6 hours?) Day 6-7: Moab, Canyonlands, Arches NP Day 8: Drive to Capital Reef (Torrey) Day 9: Drive through Bryce Canyon to Zion NP Day 10: Zion Park Day 11: Drive to Lss Vegas Airport for 5:30 pm flight back east. Thanks for any critique. Also suggest places to stay. |
I'm in my 50's and there are plenty of easy hikes that you can do in these parks. If you have the time, I'd add one extra day to Moab area and maybe an extra day in Zion if can.
I'd add a day in Bryce but you're going in November and the trails will probably be closed due to snow. Utahtea |
We were looking at doing a similar trip to yours but have confined ourselves to Zion, Bryce, Monument Valley & GC in a loop from Vegas. Having researched on fodors we thought Moab and area has so much to offer that we would be rushing and driving every day. We want a holiday out of the break!! On day 10 you will only have a couple of hours in Zion as you have to get back to LV and check in for PM flight. It seems to me that lots of people do as much as you but WE didn't want to be packing up and changing hotels every day or two. Also that way we can always go back and DO Moab/Canyonlands etc another time.

Thanks to "utatea" and "planning ahead" I'm going to reconsider the plan. You know the feeling of 'what if I never get back!' When people fly out from the east coast to visit Moab, and that area, is there an easier way to get there than trough Las Vegas?

We flew into Salt Lake City and drove straight to Moab, it's about 2 hours, spent 3 nights there, then to Torry for one night, Boulder Utah for 2 nights (did Bryce from there), then onto Zion for 2 nights and then from there to Vegas. It was very doable and not too rushed. We had been to the Grand Canyon before, so did not include this in our trip, but you would have time if you stayed 2 nights in Moab.

If you want to get all those parks in...the best bet is just to allow more time. Two full weeks would be much more relaxing.

Oh...and if you could do this in October...the weather will probably be much better in some of those locations.
