Is the $ 12 admittance worth it? Does a tour go along with it?

I believe it is, especially if you've never been on a Battleship or anything similar. It brings a newfound admiration (for me) for those who have to reside on those behemoths for months at a time.

I agree. I think when we have gone you just do it yourself.

It is worth it. There is no tour that goes along with it but there are a couple of specialists who are inside rooms who present more details about its travel paths and other informative info. I believe you can get a dollar or so off the back of local information brochures etc...

We (USS Trathen DD530 Association)are holding our memorial service aboard the North Carolina next September while in Wilmington for our annual reunion. I am looking forward to see how the guys who served aboard a ship that big lived.

We came alongside the USS New Jersey, also a battleship, while operating off of the coast of North Korea to tranfer mail and it was like a rowboat being next to yacht.

Jumping in on this thread also-Does anyone have a place to suggest to spend the night in Wilmington? Will be driving up from HH in Sept-heading to Williamsburg. Thanks in advance for info-Chris Love to look and hear water

It's worth every penny. All battleships have similarities, but they all also seem to have subtle differences. It is one of 5 we have visited and have been awed by each.

When we were there a couple of years ago, I was taking pictures with our digital camera and the batteries went dead. Didn't think anything of it. Didn't have any extras, so purchased some in gift shop. Took two pictures and those batteries went dead. Hmmm. Didn't get anymore.

We learned a few months later that tge USS North Carolina is one of the most haunted ships in America. The Paranormal group that visited it previous to us had difficulty keeping a charge in their batteries. Coincidence? I'll let you make the call.

I had to cancel my trip to Wilmington to visit hotels with the person in charge of our upkeeping September reunion, but we had selected six that appeared to best suit our needs. Cost of rooms, banquet facilities, airport shuttle, location, and condition of the hotels being the main factors.

Two of her three favorites were both Hampton Inns but she selected the Holiday Inn as most logical for our group.

The Hilton is downtown and near the NC Battleship. There are a lot of fun places near by. The Cotton Exchange is a fun place.
