a and b are my mindset as well. I see your point about accepting cash. If I was the one to offer to share the room, I would not expect compensation however his situation is a little different.

Too bad the report posts link doesn't work anymore.

From experience, you can still email the moderators and let them know there is something "not fun" & they will respond and remove posts not in compliance.

It's different because a and b don't exist. I'm still not accepting cash. If someone offers, I'm saying, "How 'bout you take me to dinner instead?"

That's fine. Your choice. There may be situations where I'd do the same but this is not one of them. That is my choice.
Thanks for your input.

You don't have to defend your choice to me.

I was just following your request in the OP:

"Thoughts?"

You are correct - I don't. I thought your response was reasonable which is why I partially agreed and thanked you for your **thoughts**.

>>(If you pay $100 for $100 room, you didn't pay for the points, you paid for the room. The points are a bonus)

You pay $100 and choose not to collect the points. It is like telling them to hold the pickles on your burger. The points and pickles don't add value for you. They are not a bonus, they are part of the deal.

But, I will pay $97 dollars for the same room because I will get the member rate. I will pay using a hotel-affiliated credit card and earn more points instead of using a cash-back card. The points have value to me.

You and I stay in different rooms at a hotel with a pool. You have no intention of using the pool. I chose that hotel partly because it has a pool that I intend to use and actually do use. The pool is not a bonus for me because I paid for the right to use it.

The pool, points, pickles, pillows, patio, are options that I am paying to use or not.

I suppose you could consider added value to be be a bonus. But points are a discount on a future stay.
