Us Airways comments:good or bad?
I'll fly Us Airways from Europe to Us, luckily business class. It's the first time I use this company. Is it good? no delay? does it have a good business class? Any good or bad comments?
thanks Milli |
It is like every other large carrier in the United States; it has its good days and it has its bad days.
Honestly, I think they are all interchangable with the exception of the freaky boarding at Southwest. |
There's a forum dedicated to "Airlines". You might receive more comments there.
My experiences w/ US has been the same as other airlines; usually ok, occasionally I vow to never use them again, but do. |
rb - that's funny. We would love to vow to never us US again, but we are in PHL, so we're stuck.
milli - what airport are you flying into in the US? I understand that connecting through PHL is difficult, to say the least. Since I live here, I don't have to deal with that. My husband is a USAir frequent flyer (gold) and he says that he thinks things have improved on USAir, except their baggage problems, esp. out of PHL. Three times they forgot to load a whole cartload of luggage on the plane. The receiving airports inform us that his happens all the time with luggage from PHL. Just Tues. they forgot a whole bunch of luggage on his flight to Boston. Otherwise, on-time rates seem to be improving. |
If you are flying Envoy Class on the Airbus A330 (London, Paris, Madrid, Frankfurt, and maybe others) it's fantastic! Envoy on the 767 is still okay but not nearly as nice...older cloth (not leather!) seats, fewer entertainment options, etc.
|
OK now I have something else to worry about. I am flying out of PHL to Frankfurt in Oct. I know they take forever to get your luggage out, but never knew they wouldn't put luggage on the plane.
|
I have flown the A330 and the 767 Envoy class flights between the US and Europe.
The 767 flights were ok, but I have had some awful experiences with US Airways. I can get into more specifics if you want, but the troubles run the gamut. Late departures, freakish siutations, botched reservatons, cancelled flights after returning to either Philadelphia or Charlotte which caused all sorts of disruptions. If you are flying only from Philadelphia to Europe, or from another hub, I think things may be ok. Where I have had my troubles has been with connecting flights in the US, except for one flight from Philly to Dublin that was a wild one. |
I fly US Air a lot connecting in Charlotte & have never had a problem.....no lost luggage, no cancellations, no late departures. I love US Air!
If you are worried about PHL, can you change that connection? Call US Air & see what they can do for you to change the PHL connection. Or, is PHL your originating city to Frankfurt? In your original post, you said that you were flying from Europe to US. So, is your destination from Europe to PHL? Then you leave from PHL to go back to Europe( Frankfurt)? |
HI ALL! Unfortunately, Karens, I fly from Rome To San Francisco trough PHL. Should I expect to loose my luggage and/or my connection flight? I think I've nearly 3 hours but I have to do immigration procedure of course and then take the luggage and put it on the SFO flight (I'm Italian). Do you think I can make it? I don't know what Envoy class is but I fly with A330.

milli - I think you will be fine with 3 hours and I think you will have your luggage as well!!
The luggage problems I've heard about are about luggage that originates in Phila. And I've heard PHL is a difficult airport to connect through, but also that some connections are timed so closely that they are almost impossible to make. 3 hours is a long time. Have a great flight - and come back and let us know how it went! |
I fly on US Airways from time to time but use PIT rather than PHL. It is, as others have said like any major US carrier. Three hours should be plenty of time in PHL to get processed and make a connection. Even with all the mistakes they make, it's still a very small percentage of luggage that gets lost.
|
No one should expect their luggage to get lost. But it doens't mean one shouldn't be prepared. You need one day of clothings, all your medications, valuable items, etc in you carry-on.
I don't know the actual numbers, but say PHL has 10 times the rate of other airports of luggage misconnect - so it's one in every 1,000 piece instead of one in 10,000. Does it mean it will happen to you? Most likely not. But if it happens, it happens. |
US Airways is the worst airline I have dealt with. My father flies frequently from Charlotte to Newark. The last 2 times they lost his luggage. One time they said the luggage would be delivered by midnight and we didn't receive it until 9am the next day. Additionally, we were making reservations and the agent was extremely rude and hung up on me because my baby started to cry and she said she couldn't hear... Good luck and take a carry on!
|
Gosh!! I hope everything will be ok. But i'll be prepared and have one day survival kit with me at least. Thanks for your help.
Milli P.S. I'll write a report after my trip! |
I flew them for the first time last week between Seattle and Puerto Vallarta Mexico. Overall it was an OK experience. I had excellent "suitcase karma" myself, towards the first off the carousel each time, no delays.
|
Milli,
Relax. I have flown US Airways envoy class to and from Europe several times, through PHL and CLT and have never had a problem. Going through customs is never a fun experience, but three hours is more than enough time for your connection. Enjoy the trip. |
