Urine Town the musical

I heard a radio ad for this show today. Anyone seen it? Any reviews?

Howard Oct 3rd, 2001 02:36 PM

I haven't seen, but I can tell you that it got very good reviews and is doing fairly good business. It's quite satiric, with the theater itself as one of the objects of its satire.

I hear it leaves most people pissed off.

When the snow falls in Urine Town does it immediately turn yellow?

Winnie Oct 3rd, 2001 05:18 PM

That's from a children's story right? <BR>Isn't Urine Town just down the road from Pooh Corner?

Is a resident of Urine Town a "Uriner" or a "Urinal"?

Ellen Oct 3rd, 2001 07:58 PM

Saw it. I really couldn't stand it from start to finish. My husband, however, thought it was hysterical & can't wait to see it again. But then, he also liked the movie Dumb and Dumber. Makes the world go 'round. I am not a fan of satire, camp, or farce, so perhaps my opinion is a bit harsh. I just found the whole story offensive. If I can't get into the subject matter, the whole production is doomed for me. However, the cast is talented, worked really, really hard, and I am sure most of the audience had fun. Just not my kind of fun.

You might check out a review of it by Mark Steyn (who's an excellent critic, IMHO) in this month's New Criterion. Just go to www.newcriterion.com, click 'This month' on the menu on the left, and then the article 'Loveless Renderings'. The section of the article on Urine Town is just past the halfway point.
