Upscale Inn/Lodge near Shenandoah?

Hi there -

My husband and I want to go for a hiking weekend in the Shenandoah. Any ideas on lodgings? Would like nice accommodations and a good restaurant on-site if possible. Spouse is a Vegetarian. Many thanks.

Where in Shenandoah?
There is Shenandoah County.
There is a town of Shenandoah.
There is the Shenandoah Valley.
There is Sky Line Drive which overlooks the Shenandoah Valley and has excellent hiking trails.

Skyline Drive Area. We live in Washington, DC and would drive out on a Friday afternoon for the weekend. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Google Sky Line Drive for info on Shenandoah National Park. It covers lodging (Sky Land, mile post 41.7 and Big Meadows, mile post 51) hiking and other info along the Drive.

Sorry, I forgot you mentioned upscale.

You might find something in Luray more suitable.

For Friday night I would drive beyond Front Royal about twelve miles to Strasburg, the first exit on I-81 south after the I-66 merge, stay at the Hotel Strasburg, (circa 1905) and then get an early start in the morning. It will only take about twenty minutes to back track to Front Royal and the entrance to the drive.

We haven't stayed at the hotel since we live in Woodstock, but have had many memorable holiday and anniversary dinners there.

You might want to stay at L'Auberge Provencal in White Post Va.
This is a very upscale inn with beautiful rooms and great French food.
We stayed there several years ago when visiting the Skyline Drive.
They have a very nice web site. Check it out.

No other sarcasm from the Fodorites. Please be aware that there is decent lodging along Skyline Drive that is very convenient to your hiking. If you could get 1 of the non-rustic rooms this late, either Skyland or Big Meadows could fit the bill. Far from a French B&B but the food is decent and vegeterian diets are easily obtained. If the weather is decent, the views are worth a little less luxury.
