Upscale grocery store in Atlanta close to hwy 400

We're flying into Atlanta and then driving north on 400 to a rental cabin in the mountains in the Chattahoochee forest. I'm looking for a nice supermarket where we can stop for some nice imported cheeses, good deli selections etc. Can you recommend one that would be on our way? Thanks.

Harry's (aka Whole Foods) and Fresh Market are both within about 10 miles of 400 off the Haynes Bridge exit. Fresh Market is to the east of 400; Harry's is to the west. Both have a good selection of cheeses, wines, novelty foods, etc.

There is a Whole Foods in Midtown about 2 miles from 75/85 (which you'll take to get to 400) on Ponce de Leon.

I would bet there's something closer (than 10 miles) to GA-400 up in Alpharetta. Anyone?

Fresh Market is probably closer than ten miles. Actually, when I said miles I meant to say that was round-trip. Then again, I've never actually measured the distance.

There's no Fresh Market in Alpharetta, unfortunately but I love the one in Dunwoody. Harry's (which was bought out by Whole Foods) is one place to stop. You would get off 400 at Mansell, go west to Hwy 9 and make a left on Upper Hembree--Harry's will be down the road on the left...

Another idea is Eatzies which is a terrific gourmet market. They have 2 locations. One is on Peachtree in Buckhead and the other one is in Dunwoody on Ashford Dunwoody Rd., a mile north of 285. I'd say that the Dunwoody one might be your best bet.

Let me know if you want more specific directions or have any questions

I'm sorry, I left off a turn to get to Harry's. At Hwy 9, you would turn right and take that up to Upper Hembree Rd...

There's a Whole Foods on Roswell Road just off I-285 (about 5 or 6 stop lights north of 285 on the left side of the street). From GA 400 going north from the airport, take I-285 west to Roswell Road (one exit west of GA 400).

Oooooh, you must stop at Eatzis! It's just wonderful! And grab a small chocolate oblivion cake for dessert.

Padams--Had a complete brain drain. The Whole Foods in Sandy Springs or Eatzie's would be the most convenient for julies...glad you mentioned it!

We have Whole Foods in Minneapolis where I live, so I am familiar with them and may try Eatzis for something else. Since you are all so familiar with the area, is the Alpharetta Costco the one that would also be my best bet if we want to stop there?

Where are you going to be? Ingles Supermarkets has a number of larger stores in N. GA - Clayton, Jasper, Hiawasee, .... and they carry a good selection of gourmet cheeses, organic foods, wines, beer, etc
www.ingles-markets.com and click on store locations.
