Upper Keys Nice Lodging
 

Hi all,
I need your help again. I am looking for a nice resort/hotel in the upper Keys. Driving from Naples to Key West and want to break up the trip before landing in Key West. I have two little kids so a place that's family friendly is a must. Looked at Azul Del Mar, Casa Morada, Little Palm Island and no kids are welcome. That leaves Cheeca Resort, Hawk's Cay Resort and The Ritz on Key Biscayne. I didn't want to spend over $300 for this one night which is why I've neglected to book the above. I'd pay $250 for a place in June. Is there anyplace nice that I'm missing in my research, where my kids are welcome? How bad is Hawk's Cay, Marriott Key Largo, Sheraton Beach Resort. None got glowing reviews. I suppose for one night we could do anything clean as long as it's around $250, then adding on resort fees, food, parking, etc. All suggestions are welcome.

Hmmm..I would think the Mariott in Key Largo would be fine. I have heard some decent reviews of this hotel on this fourm recently...I often eat at the Restaurant there for breakfast and although that is no guarantee of the rooms the grounds seem very nice....

Have you checked the Ocean Reef Club? Very chi-chi private enclave in Key Largo. Has its own private landing strip for the owners that have their own planes.

Marriott and Sheraton would both be fine, IMO. Last time I was in Hawks Cay, the hotel looked a little tired plus, it's pretty far down. Staying in Key Largo would break up the drive more.

Look at Palms and Pines in Islamorada. Delightful and affordable cottages with kitchens, porches, etc.

Perfect for a family.

Good restaurants nearby as well. MM 80 or so.

I second the Marriott or Sheraton suggestions. There's also a Hampton Inn at Islamorda that has more facilities than one would expect. If you do end up on Key Largo, be sure to take the kids to the Jacobs Aquatic Center. It has a zero grade pool with a pirate playground plus low and high diving boards.

Wow.. great tips !! We are actually staying in Key Largo.. so we only have so much time., but planning on getting up early and enjoying a FULL day !!

My hubby insists we find the jimmy buffet place for a drink.. in key largo ?? is it worth it ??

I just responded to this on your other post, but here goes again: Margaritaville is in Key West on Duval Street. In my opinion, it is nothing special, but if your husband is a die hard Buffett fan you might stop there for a drink. Skip the food!

We spent several days in the Key Largo Marriott this time last year and it was just fine. The rooms were in the process of being redone (ours was brand new from top to bottom including a wonderful bathroom), the grounds were well maintained, the food was good and not overly overpriced for a hotel, and the pool was pleasant. We were there with another couple and their room was also all new. Overall a good hotel and I would recommend it.
