Unusual T Shirts in NYC
My wonderful husband has given my daughter and me a summer trip to NYC. His only request was to find a couple of T shirts to add to his collection. He doesn't want Hard Rock or I Love NY or NYPD, etc., preferring bars or restaurants with unusual pictures or slogans. Can you help me out with some places that I might be able to find something like this? Thanks in advance!

You won't have a problem finding interesting tees here, they are sold on almost every street corner, especially in the 34th St area.
Also try any of the street fairs that happen all summer long on Saturday and Sunday. There you will find tons of interesting things to take home. Have a great time while you are here. |
How about FDNY? The NY Fire Department has an official T-shirt that says FDNY on the front and KEEP BACK 200 FEET on the back. The store is on Lafayette St bet Prince and Spring in Soho/Little Italy.

The Legend Lives. I remember this one from years ago, and it's still available. Go to https://www.nycitystore.com/ It's a NYC T, but I guarantee you won't find it on every corner...

If you walk along canal st; and look in the various shops, you will find all sort of T shirts.

If your husband is Beatles fan, several places in the Village sell the same shirt John Lennon wore in a very famous photograph of him with a New York City shirt. Here's the first link I found that shows the shirt. (Note the one he is wearing, not the shirt of him wearing the shirt! Depending on style, you may want the sleeves.)
http://www.t-shirtking.net/t-shirts/...to_T-Shirt.htm Again depending on his taste and sense of humor, the "Die Yuppie Scum" and "NY, It Ain't Kansas" shirts are still around. In terms of shirts in restaurants and bars, frankly I'm not sure that's really a big deal in NY. I've lived here my entire life and other than the "Hard Rock's" of the world and a few pubs, I can't recall many that sell shirts, or at least are visible about it. If you are near there, the Lincoln Center store has some very nice shirts. For years I had a Mostly Mozart t-shirt that's about to get tossed by my wife. It has a picture of Mozart on the front. |
On St. Marks Place, the south side of the street, about a block past Cooper Sq., there's a pretty big T-shirt shop with lots of wacky stuff.

My favorite NYC shirt had a picture of a handgun with the caption "Welcome to New York, now duck motherf***er!"
