unsuccessful search

Please tell me what I am doing wrong. since the format was changed, I have not been able to obtain any decent results from a number of different searches. This used to be my favorite site for travel. Can you tell me if there is a help page? thanks

I'm with you. It seems to take a lot more digging to uncover old posts since the change. I'm using this site less and less.

Are you using advanced search, under the <red>"Search term(s)" </red> box clicking on <red> " Search full topic and replies" </red> ?

Otherwise it will only search for your keywords in the title. Also check that you have looked at the date range box. It will only search the last 12 months unless you type in a date range. You can search 3 years at a time.

For further help, click on <red>Forums</red>, then click on <red>Forums help</red> -the next to last choice.

If you don't get help there, you can email the editors.

I tried one last time. Can't seem to figure out what I am doing wrong. So frustrating, here is what I searched with no results.

No results found for "berkshires dining" in United States tagged Massachusetts between 07/11/2006 and 07/10/2009 by user "stoweflake" .

Anyone that could provide me with other suggestions , please do.
Otherwise it's tripadvisor for me.

I use google to search on fodors.

Use this format on google

"site:fodors.com berkshires dining"

ellenem Jul 11th, 2009 05:39 AM

Are your looking for a thread YOU posted on about dining in the Berkshires? If not, don't put in your screen name. If you're just looking for dining option in the Berkshires, leave the screen name blank.

Betsy Jul 11th, 2009 07:09 AM

Your search may be too specific. Maybe no one has ever posted under "Berkshires Dining." Try searching "Berkshires" (no quotes) and scroll through the threads to see if anyone mentioned dining.

If you're looking for a thread <i>you</i> started, click on your user name (in blue) on any post. I just tried this and didn't find any thread you started about the Berkshires.

i typed in those dates and used the terms -berksires ate -and advanced search and got this, among others:

I absolutely hate the new format.

Jo1023 Jul 12th, 2009 05:57 AM

I completely agree. The old format was much more user friendly. I don't see any user-advantages to this new one.

I wish that if they'd gone through the trouble of reformatting the website, that they would have created a way for you to mark threads as favorites.

thanks everyone for your responses. At least I know I am not alone for the most part in my opinion of the new format. Interesting idea to search outside fordors using google.
I think this might tell me that the fodors search engines are not working correctly.

mclaurie Jul 15th, 2009 12:34 AM

I'm also not at all happy with the redesign but I think you can find some info. Restaurants AND Berkshires may yield more than Berkshires dining and make sure to check "search full topic and replies". Don't select a state since Berkshire info could fall in several.

stoweflake Jul 15th, 2009 04:08 PM

thank you fodors are you listening??

beachkomer Jul 15th, 2009 04:21 PM

This website is sooo ancient compared to other forum formats! I can't believe fodors doesn't get with the
program! It's crazy.
