Universal Studios California

For those who have been there, should I go there or another part of Disney? How does it compare to Flordia's? Is it very far from the Costa Mesa area? I'm planning a trip for next month and was wondering if I should include this in my itenerary...Thanks

I have never been to Universal Orlando but I own an annual pass to the one in Hollywood. If you enjoy movies and television it is very interesting.
Universal is an important working studio and also an amusement park.Only one ride (Jurassic Park) is too scary for me.Lots of shows and shops too.
With no traffic,it would be about 50 minutes from Costa Mesa.

Oh...it's in Hollywood? Why was I thinking it was in Anaheim?

I've been to both and they're similar. Universal Hollywood has a good Waterworld show and the backlot studio tour is more interesting than Orlando.

It's actually in the valley over by Burbank and Studio City. Bit farther than Hollywood. I think 50 min. is optimistic unless you are really going at an off hour. I too have never been to the Orlando one, but enjoyed the California one when we used to take houseguests from Pasadena. Knotts Berry Farm is close to Disney in Anaheim and Legoland is farther to the south near San Diego.

Emily, coming from Costa Mesa, unless you are driving in between the hours of 3am to 5 am, you can pretty much expect to deal with LA's best: traffic.

You'd be driving probably on the 5 freeway, then to the 101, all of which could be a ride in themselves. In rush, 1.5 hours is probably more realistic. If you can, avoid the hours of 7-10 am and 3-7pm. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Emily, I just came back from both, if you are press for time then go DISNEY, since Universal is about 50 min. away from anaheim, (I am assuming your staying at Anaheim hotels). But if you can spare time, go to both, you wont regret it just go early since universal closes at 8 pm, disney at 9 pm, if your planning what place to stay book one in front of Disney resort, with that you wont need to wait for the every half hour shuttle in going to and from your hotel.
