Union Square Holiday Market NYC
 

Can anyone offer a comment on the Union Square Holiday Market? I saw a 2 line announcement that gave the dates & times (11/22 to 12/24) but no information about the event itself. What type of items do they sell here (hand made crafts??) and is it an outdoor event? We will be in NYC next weekend and I was wondering if this was something we might enjoy.

I'm going to guess that this is similar to the normal Union Square Market, and mostly food. They will probably sell wreaths, trees, and holiday stuff, too. I'm not sure about the crafts. I'm 90% sure this will be outside.

I've gone to it many times. It's outdoors in the southwest corner of the park (whereas the regular produce market is generally in the northwest corner). They sell lots of gift items such as hats, gloves, toys, crafts, jewelry and artwork. Lots of handmade stuff. It is outdoors, and every time I've gone it's been almost unbearably cold because that area seems to be in one big wind tunnel. So bundle up!

It's totally different than the regular market. Tons of holiday gifts, crafts, jewelery, clothing, etc. It's a lot of fun and has a true holiday air to it. Heed Suzanne's advice: It's freezing down there! But, there's a Starbucks right across the street so you can get some coffee and walk around.

Thanks for the responses - this sounds like fun, and it would be something "new" for us to do in NYC. We will be sure to dress warm, and I have to apologize in advance to anyone else who is thinking of visiting this market next weekend - if we are there, it is guaranteed to be snowing, hailing, windy and very cold... lol

You might also want to check out the holiday market in Vanderbilt Hall at Grand Central Station. We found some great gifts here last year. Lots of beautiful and unusual crafts in a range of prices--and it's indoors.

I work a few blocks away and the brunt of the Holiday Market is around 17th and Broadway. It is outdoors, however, weather.com reports it's supposed to be in the 60's next weekend, so you may not need to bundle up after all!!

Starts Tuesday, November 18, this year's Fair includes wares from more than 70 artists, artisans and specialty retailers. It's open Monday through Saturday from 10 am to 8 pm, and Sundays from noon to 6pm.

Both of these markets sounds like nice NYC holiday experiences!
