Uncrowded Kauai - With A/C?
 

Thanks so much to those who've responded to my previous posts. It's looking as if a B&B with no air conditioning in August may not be conducive to sleeping. My preference is to avoid a crowded, sterile hotel -- and a beautiful view would sure be nice. Any recommendations for a condo--maybe north shore (but not necessarily)? Under $200/nt would be nice.

They have a variety of configurations at the Hanalei Bay Resort from hotel bedroom lock-offs to 2 bedroom units, all with a/c. It is a low key sort of place in a great location. Not Sterile.

We stayed on the east side of Kauai, in Lihue, at the Outrigger-turned-Radisson. We stayed both in '98 and in '01. It's not crowded by any means, not like Poipu where it's resort after resort. And it's in your price range.

Sign up for their Gold Points program and you may likely have enough points for another hotel night elsewhere.

FYI, Perchy, I'll be staying at the hotel you mentioned for six days as part of a conference prior to the "vacation" part of the trip -- so I want to move to a different part of the island.

The Hanalei Bay resort condos look great . . . but apparently, lots of others thought so -- because they're completely sold out on the dates I'd need them.

Unless I get convinced otherwise, I'm thinking I'll take the chance and stay at a place that looks great -- but lacks a/c. They promise me that it is typically quite comfortable in the evening because of the trade winds -- and I'll be out sightseeing during the days.

Hi, not sure if you've already booked or not but there are a ton of folks who own condos at Hanalei bay resort... I would google it and go from there. I wouldn't book directly with the hotel/resort because there rooms seem to have very mixed reviews.. I'm thinking about staying there because I'm nervous about the heat in Aug or early Sept. Julie

In late September, we stayed at the Aloha Sweet Seclusion on the North Shore, and LOVED it! You basically couldn't get more secluded. There are a few units on the property, but we didn't see or hear a soul the entire time we were there. I loved feeling like we were actually living in a treehouse!

We didn't have any problems without AC, because the breezes through the place were plenty, although it was at least a month after you are planning to be there.

My suggestion is Resortquest Islander of the Beach in Kapa'a. Oceanfront with Entertainment card was $148.Icy A/C. 3 stories, plantation style, recently remodeled. Didn't experience any bugs (indoors or outdoors) We stayed there the end of June 2006

The new Princeville Plantation condos have A/C...always welcome on warm nights when there's no breeze.

Interesting note -- hot weather is tolerable as long as the tradewinds stay at 15-20 mph minimum. We've had days when the temp nears 90 -- but if (like today) the wind is 20-25 mph, we barely break a sweat. But when the winds drop down (or worse yet, disappear!), even 80 degrees can be debilitating.

both are the north side (Princeville) side of Kauai. You'd have a hard time going wrong here.
