Uncasville CT

anyone has suggestions as how we can spend our time here, have 2 full days in November.

The only thing I know of in Uncasville is Mohegan Sun, so you could do some gambling, maybe see a show, and hit some of the nice restaurants there!

The hwole idea of byuilding Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun casino complexes in the areas they are in is that there is and was nothing there besides the casino complexes.

As others have mentioned, there's nothing else IN Uncasville, but assuming you'll have a car, you can go to Mystic connecticut (mystic seaport, aquarium, etc)about 30 minutes away or Providence Rhode Island (nice small city with good art and restaurants, about an hours drive

gambling at the beginning of our trip could end up being disastrous as this trip is, at the beginning I mean. Nyer, is there good public transport to get to Mystic? will not be planning to have a car.

Mohegan is a great place - terrific shopping, wonderful restaurants and a lot of gambling all in one place. I would check their website, pick a restaurant and make a reservation..they are needed for all the really nice ones there. Shows are popular too. With just two days, you could go to Mystic, which is a wonderful area. I bet Mohegan can arrange a car rental for the day. But, you might find Mohegan can fill the bill all by itself.

Ive only driven in the area but it would be tough to get around Mystic without a car too (unless you were just going to the Seaport, which is a big but self contained place).
On the Mohegan Sun website under Public transportation they just list a taxi company and a bus from nearby Norwich.
In the FAQ they add "Is there public transportation to Mohegan Sun?
You can find more information about public transportation by calling our toll free number, 1.888.226.7711 or 1.888.770.0140 for bus information."

Why are you going to Uncasville? Sounds like you don't want to gamble. If you don't want to rent a car, how are you getting there?

good question Gail, we were planning to stay in NYC for 10 tens but because of the cost of hotels, we decided to get out for a bit. Actually planning to take the AMtrak from Princeton Junction NJ via NYC to Uncasville but nothing finalise yet. Any suggestions around Princeton area so we can skip Uncasville? thanks.

nyer Aug 19th, 2007 03:32 PM

kimmos, just about any place is going to be cheaper than NYC!
About Princeton, you should post that as a separate topic, but what were you planning for that area? Many of the places you mention will be tough without a car. From Princeton Junction you get to "downtown" Princeton and see the University campus museum etc--but it isn't usually high on people's lists of places to visit if they are coming to NYC.
You can start a post on this board with a title like "Places easy to reach by public transportation from NYC" and describe what kind of experiences you want--another city(Philadelphia?), small town to walk around eat and shop, hiking, museums, whatever
Be sure to say what your budget is for a night's hotel

thanks nyer, good suggestion....catching up with relatives in Princeton. They actually suggested going to spend a day or so in DC.

As mentioned above Uncasville is a fork in the road near a couple of casinos and some inexpensive motels. There's nothing else to do right there. And unless you take the casino bus don't know how you would get there. And you MUST have a car to get around and see anything in Mystic or Newport.

I think you really need to reconsider this part of your trip.

You'll be very close to New London.
Check out Ocean Beach

I beieve they have their own website

There is plenty to do around Uncasville for a few days besides the casinos. Nice hiking around Devil's Hopyard State Park, Mystic is a nice harbor town nearby where you can spend a day and go the aquarium, the Spa at Norwich Inn is great if you want to spend a day getting pampered, there is golf, and nearby vineyards that you can tour.

Of course, you will need a car to do most of this, although, if you stay at the Spa at Norwich, I believe they provide transportation to many of these for a small price.
