Ukranian food in San Francisco
I will be spending Christmas in San Francisco this year, and am hoping to find a traditional Ukranian dinner on Christmas eve - does anyone know of such a thing in SF? A Russian restaurant would probably do in a pinch as well...
|
This might be tough as there are only a few Russian restaurants in SF, let alone Ukrainian, and most of them seem to be delis/bakeries. The only Russian restaurant I know of is Russian Renaissance and I have no idea if it was authentic Russian food--it was good, service was not.

Russian Renaissance is one of my favorite restaurants of all time. Never had a problem with the service but my Dad knew the owner so maybe we got special treatment.
Best, Lisa |
I don't know anything about Ukranian food, and it isn't even a category on Yelp, but Russian food is, and a place called Katia's Russian Tea Room gets good reviews.

If you knew the owner Lisa, you probably did. Also it might help with service to be Russian, the food, however, was good. There are some other Russian restaurants out in the Richmond area of SF, but I know nothing about them. Katia's gets fairly good reviews on Yelp -I always view Yelp reviews with a healthy dose of skeptism-but they are somewhat helpful.

Russian restaurant? Russian Christmas is in January, you will arrive 2 weeks early. You can go to a New Year's dinner on December 31 - this will be a huge celebration.
There is a new tea room, I think it's called "Samovar" that serves teas from all over the world including russian style, haven't been there though! http://samovarlife.com/food/ |
There is also Cinderella, a small restaurant (enter through bakery)
- I was at somebody's birthday, so can't tell how it is on a regular day. http://www.cinderellabakery.com/ |
