UCLA trip
Traveling in early Feb. to UCLA grandson. Need lodging and restaurant suggestions.
|
With absolutely no clue what your budget or tastes are...
Look at the UCLA Tiverton House and the Plaza La Reina, both in Westwood. There's always the Bel Air Hotel! We haven't dined in Westwood since before Covid, and I know there have been some closures. Violet Bistro gets good reviews (take-out only). Skylight Gardens is a long-time favorite. |
There is also a new UCLA owned and operated hotel on campus called The Luskin, connected to the conference center. You can book direct possibly with a family rate BRUINFAMILY, or using hotels.com, etc.
Having attended a conference at the Luskin Center, I would expect the same level of detail and excellence if you want to be on campus. If there is availability that would be my first choice. If you want to be off campus also look at the Kimpton Palomar. It really isn't that far from Westwood Village. |
Is grandson there already or looking at it? If he is there, ask him what he wants to do.

lodging near UCLA
Two nights next week...we'll have our car. Suggestions and for dining?

Not what you asked, but if you have time, the Will Rogers polo park is a fun visit. Tour the historic home, watch a polo game. It's about 25 minutes drive on Sunset Blvd. Take a picnic, as no food is offered there.
https://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=626 For places to eat, you can take Sunset Blvd to Pacific Coast Hwy. Turn right and head towards Malibu. There are nice oceanfront restaurants there. We like Moonshadows https://moonshadowsmalibu.com. Or there's Dukes, which gets really busy https://www.dukesmalibu.com Or you can drive further up, to Paradise Cove. Parking will cost you, but servings are huge and it's oceanside. https://www.paradisecovemalibu.com |
The polo season at Will Rogers State Park doesn't begin until mid-April...

Your two threads have been merged

Royal Palace Westwood is an easy walk to campus and has parking. Kimpton Palomar is nicer, parking is $75 a day.
Pomodoro is a great little trattoria that's walking distance from campus, walk straight down Westwood Blvd, cross Wilshire and its about 3 blocks further on the right. Dinner only currently. Cava is a casual mediterranean cafe a short walk from campus, build-your-own salads & bowls from a long list of options, try the hot vinaigrette. |
The Brentwood Inn is a cute little motel-type place on Sunset Blvd. Free parking, continental breakfast included. It only has 21 rooms, so it fills fast, especially if UCLA is active.

Well, this is Super Bowl week, so I hope they booked their hotel long ago. Maybe the jacked up rates scared them off.

She had started a new thread last Thursday (now combined with the original topic from back in Jan.) saying the trip is two nights this week. But she never returned to either thread. Doesn't seem she was interested in anyone's suggestions.
I hate when that happens |
Not that this info is needed anymore, but just heard the Bengals just took over the Luskin conference center & hotel at UCLA and will be using UCLA to practice, so the place is going to be MOBBED.
Skylight gardens is one of my favorite places to go for dinner in Westwood (even though the owner and son are rabid USC fans, they are wonderful people). Rocco's in Westwood is a terrific bar with surprisingly excellent food. |
