Uber from LAX

Any idea how much an Uber ride is from LAX to the Brentwood area of LA? Also, how do I contact them once I arrive???? (Senior citizen who is not very technical. ;) Thanks

maybe 20 or $25 depending on where you're going in Brentwood. Uber is an app that you must have on your phone you'll have to ask someone else to load it onto your phone if you don't know how to do it

Thanks so much. I'll check into that.

Why Uber and not a taxi if you are tech-incompetent? Your rate with a taxi should be in the $40 to $45 range and you don't need to worry about "surge pricing".

Uber or Lyft will be less expensive than a cab. It's very easy to download the apps and use them. You need to put in your credit card for payment. Not a big deal.

Often they are but there is dynamic pricing so if it is a busy time uber/Lyft can actually cost more.

Also at LAX, your have to go upstairs to the Departures level to pick up your Uber or Lyft, they cannot pick up at the Arrivals area. There are 5 marked pickup points.

Very true. When we returned from Scotland last year, we were going to Uber from LAX to Pasadena (two couples). Uber cost was $185...Taxi was half that much (luckily with a split cost, damage to the wallet minimal)

Yikes.

Depending on your arrival point, it can be a much farther walk to the shared ride meeting point than to the nearest taxi stand. And, as someone has already mentioned, you have to go upstairs to the departures level. LAX is our "home" airport. We occasionally use Lyft to get to the airport but always take taxis from airport to home.

If the budget is tight, you could take the Flyaway bus from LAX to Westwood and then taxi or Lyft/Uber for the short ride to Brentwood.

But do you have a smartphone?

Another option - Super Shuttle. I've used it, and our daughter (who doesn't drive) uses it to get to LAX any time she travels. https://www.supershuttle.com/#gref

Supershuttle is not a good option if you are going such a short distance. It probably costs the same or more than Uber/LYft and even with a reservation you have to wait for them to show up, as well as do the 2 loops, and then drop other people off before you.

It once took me 1-1/2 hours to get from LAX to Loew's Santa Monica (about 10 miles) - it was the last time I ever used an airport shuttle.

Well, just offering a simple alternate. DD normally says her trips on Super Shuttle take 30-40 minutes between LAX and North Holllywood. Not horrible. I used to take it often from Dallas airport to Richardson. Not always the quickest option but also not requiring tech savvy.

In my experience there is a big difference using Supershuttle GOING TO VS COMING FROM the airport. At LAX, there are times when you can wait over 30 minutes for Supershuttle to just show up at the curb (and the dispatchers can't tell you how long it will take if you can even find a dispatcher anymore). From what I gather the drivers are independent contractors and won't go over there if they think it's just going to be one passenger. It just isn't worth the time and gas money any more especially with so many people now opting for Lyft etc.. Unless they are already doing a dropoff or have a reservation for several people around the same time, you can be out of luck. They aren't allowed to continuously circulate at the airport cruising for passengers.
