Uber boston

Has anyone got experience of using the Uber in Boston? Would you recommend it? Thank you

SambaChula Jan 13th, 2017 07:17 AM

The T is the best way to get around the Boston area.
Uber is widely used too.

Uber is HUGE in Boston. While I was queuing in my SUV a woman tried to climb in back! I have personally witnessed on the streets of Boston, just how big Uber has become. It is very convenient. Just don't make the mistake of asking for a black car, I've been told it's an upgrade and up charge for the feel of a town car/

I have used Uber many, many times in Boston and Cambridge as have my family. If it was too hot to walk to the T, I used Uber, or late at night, etc. Or we were a group, etc. I met the most interesting drivers as Uber is usually a second job. I also use it in Chicago and New York.

Yes, Uber is a very good choice in Boston. I've used it to good effect, and my friends who live there swear by Uber over taxis or the T.

Uber is alive and very well in Boston and the suburbs.

We used it in Boston a lot last spring, no problems. It's very popular there, which means there are always lots of drivers around, which means wait times are short.

It's called Uber Black, and yes, you get a fancy sedan. Uber X is the base--you get whatever car is available. And Uber XL is for parties of 4 or more people--I can't recall exactly how many is the maximum, maybe 6.

I used it a lot on my recent trip. Since there were just 2 of us, we did Uber Pool where you may have to stop and pick up another passenger. We very rarely had to stop for others and got discounted rates.

Tanks very much. I have read that Uber are not a?lowed into Logan airport though unless they are livery type cars. Is that correct?

cw Jan 14th, 2017 06:55 AM

Uber isn't allowed to pick-up at the airport unless it is the car category that pays airport fees like livery and taxis to. But Uber can drop people off at the airport.

Some people arriving take the free Silver Line bus to South Station and either then transfer for free to the Red Line train or call Uber from there. There is also a line of taxis at every terminal for pick-ups.

Thanks again. We want to get to Somerville.

tchoiniere Jan 17th, 2017 10:40 AM

That's where we took Uber to. IT will be an easy ride. If 2 or less, use Uber Pool. More than that, just do the normal Uber as you wouldn't be able to add riders.

Uber is great in Boston, including Somerville, Cambridge, and the other immediate surrounds. Also consider Lyft, which I generally prefer to Uber (good to have both in case one app is too busy).

hudsonguz Jan 18th, 2017 06:12 AM

I have used Uber 2x in Boston and my son uses it all the time.

Inakauaidavidababy Jan 20th, 2017 10:44 AM

Lyft has cut a deal to start pickups at Logan starting 2/1. Uber is still negotiating.

I have to take advantage of this thread & ask a question. I have never used Uber & was wondering what benefits it has over a taxi?

travelgourmet Jan 23rd, 2017 02:37 PM

I have never used Uber & was wondering what benefits it has over a taxi?

1) It isn't a Boston taxi.
2) It is cheaper.
3) You can hail them with an app on your phone rather than standing on a street corner in the rain.
4) It isn't a Boston taxi.
5) You pay via the app, so don't have to deal with cash.
6) Boston-specific: you don't have to deal with the hassle that comes with the patchwork of cities, each having different taxi systems - a Boston cabbie can't pick up in Cambridge, so they give you attitude if they take you across the river, knowing the return trip is on their dime.
7) It isn't a Boston taxi.

But you can't get Uber from Logan, at least yet, though they can drop you there.

travelgourmet, have you used Lyft in Boston or elsewhere, for that matter? They will be able to pick up at Logan next week, as noted above. I gather that it is often the same drivers but a different infrastructure.

travelgourmet Jan 24th, 2017 06:57 AM

travelgourmet, have you used Lyft in Boston or elsewhere, for that matter?

I use Lyft everywhere, including Boston. It is my first choice and I only use Uber when the wait for a Lyft is too long.
