U.S. Mint in Philly?
Is it worth the time?
|
Only if you are going to be past it anyway and you are very interested.

Do you mean if its worth the time to visit or the time to ARRANGE the visit?
Your other post says you're going to Philadelphia soon - you need to schedule ahead of time to visit the Mint. http://www.usmint.gov/mint_tours/ind...n=philadelphia |
We have arrangements with our local congressman's office - but it's at 10 am on a Friday morning and with 3 full days to do things - I am just wondering if we should pass and go another time?

Out-of-town visitors insisted on seeing the mint while visiting a few years ago (before it was necessary to schedule). Not one of our group, consisting of many ages, thought it was worth the trouble. I had no idea money could be so boring...

I went to the Mint back in 2001 -- you basicially walk down one side of a very, very long hallway viewing all the history posted in frames along the wall -- think museum. Then, when you get to the end of the hallway, you turn around and walk the other side which are big windows looking into the mint area where they make the money. I went at a time where there wasn't any production, so it was pretty boring, just seeing the money sitting there. But this was at a time when you could just walk in with no appointment.
If your tour will include more than this, and you will see production, and you are very, very interested, then why not? However, if you can't answer yes, and it will take you more than 1 hour, then skip it and do something else. |
Thanks - I think we will skip it! Hoping it will be nice outside so we can do more walking and seeing the city instead!
