Two weeks in and about Miami
 

Were traveling down to Miami on January 4, and have two weeks to explore and enjoy the surrounding area. We are 68, but that doesn't mean old farts, well I guess it does. I'm an avid photographer Eva's into sewing, and we both like wine.

Were interested in traveling the area, so any suggestions you have would be gratefully appreciated also some suggestions on restaurants. I know there are literally hundreds but we both love seafood .

I know will be a good holiday, as there is no snow to shovel.

the Everglades, a drive down the Keys, a drive across Alligator Alley to Naples ... there's a lot of nature and photo ops within two hours of Miami...

I hope I'm not stating what seems self-evident to some for a Miami visit, but I do recommend a visit to South Beach, even if you don't think it sounds like "your scene". I think as a photographer, if you like architecture, you will enjoy snapping photos of South Beach's unique art-deco style and just meandering. I felt it was a unique slice of North America.

Many will tell you to skip downtown, but I also truly enjoyed downtown Miami from a photographer's perspective (Bay of Biscayne, Freedom Tower, Gesu Church) and for the energy of the Bayside Marketplace at night.

Assuming you have a car, head north to Delray Beach (southern Palm Beach county) and see the Morikami museum and especially the gardens. Photographic delight.

Thank you, it certainly sounds to be enough to do, actually I'm getting very excited. Does anyone know of any quilt stores in the Miami area? For Eva (just to clatrify)

We intend to arrive, rent a car and then move about, probably we will pick two locations as a central hub and go from there.

In the past we rented at the Best Western, I wonder if you have any suggestions for getting the local flavor?
