Two Las Vegas questions...
 

Hi! I am planning a trip to Las Vegas in the future and I have two questions:

1. I am planning a trip for late may or June and was wondering if this is a better time for fewer kids, good discounts, not too hot. I am planning to stay Monday - Friday.

2. I am torn between staying at the Mirage, or MGM, or the Flamingo. I am a pool fancier - I especially like swimming under waterfalls - and of these three, which would you stay at?

They are all good. For the pool area, I'd pick the Flamingo. Although nicer rooms at the Mirage. I'm not as familair with MGM, although I've had friend's that complained it was very crowded in general including the pool area. Late May (not Mem Day weekend though) and early June Mon - Fri, should be good. Not as crowded quite yet. It could still be hot though.

I have stayed at the Flamingo twice and I liked it for these reasons--got a good price compared to the other two; decent room and decent size; located in a convenient spot--might also check out the hotel next door--bally's; also getting to the outside from the hotel is easy as the lobby/casino is not so large that it is hard to get outside.
The other two hotels make you walk through a large casino to get out--much larger than the Flamingo. While I never actually used the pool area, the pool area at the flamingo is very nice looking. I visited the mirage pool a few years ago as a friend was staying there and the pool area was large but very plain--nothing special. I would stay at the Flamingo without any hesitation if the price was right. You should also check out any of the special packages when making a reservation as sometimes they offer a better deal than just the room itself. Of the three I would pick the MGM last.

We were in LV this past June. It is was not to hot for me. We stayed at the Mirage. If a nice pool is what you are seeking, the Mirage wins hands down. It is tropical and the feel is like you are on a tropical island. If you want shade there are many trees to accomodate. I have to totally disagree it is nothing special. It was spectacular!! We checked out the other pools and the Flamingo is very dated and doesn't come close to the Mirage. The pictures which were displayed of the Flamingo were perhaps taken back in the day not a true representation of present times. There is a great waterfall and also a kids pool at the Mirage. The hotel itself is fine. Great location. I guess that saying holds true beauty is in the eye of the beholder!

As someone who goes to Vegas often you will never avoid kids there (unfortunately). By late May many schools are already out (they are in AZ where I live) and by early June you will have thousands more schools off for the summer. Don't count on fewer kids anyplace.

You will get better rates by checking in Sun. or Mon. and out Fri. but do not expect any "deals" or "bargains" - they don't exist much anymore, it just doesn't happen often. Perhaps a day or two here and there is a lower rate, but overall you probably won't find any discounts. Some hotels (you need to ask) will give you the Auto Club rate (10% discount) IF the room is not already a promotion or discounted. I know the Mirage and Treasure Island do, but you MUST show your AAA card when checking in.

The Mirage pool is the best of the ones you mention. We stay at the Mirage alot and the pool is very tropical.

I haven't stayed at the MGM Grand, and can't comment on that pool. Of the other two, the water portions of the pools at Flamingo and Mirage are pretty similar. However, the area around the pool is nicer at The Mirage. There are more large palm trees, and there's more of a tropical feel.

The Flamingo's location is ideal. It's smack dab in the middle of the Strip. The Mirage is mid-strip, but closer to the north side of middle. MGM Grand is south strip, the furthest from the center of things.

Rates at The Flamingo should be significantly lower than at The Mirage. If this is the case, I'd probably go with The Flamingo. Otherwise, The Mirage would get the nod.

Have you looked into Mandalay Bay? Their pools are fantastic for kids.

My two cents:

1. Vegas is always crowded...just sometimes are worse than others

2. Mirage is the best of the 3...Have you looked into Casears?

TravelTess- I think SnorkelCat is trying to avoid kids. The best place to avoid kids in LV is actually downtown, and one of the properties there will have a new pool by next year: the Golden Nugget.

Yes she is trying to avoid kids. I might not have been clear in my reply either. I had stated the Mirage had a kids pool, henceforth, I saw NO KIDS at the main pool not even teenagers. It was strictly adults. We also didn't want to be arouond many kids as we were were childless. Just to clarify.

Oh, I forgot about that and the Mirage and the separate kiddie pool. I've never stayed there, but have friends and relatives who love it.

Hi Travel Tess. Who would of thought 15 or so years ago, that people would have to work so hard at avoiding kids on the strip, LOL.
