Two Kauai Restaurant Questions

First of all, can someone describe what Tomkat's Grill is like? Is it a cat themed restaurant? Would you recommend it for a family restaurant with two girls who like cats? The Blue Book removed their Ono do to slow service recently. Anyone still recommend a visit?
Second question: Is Roy's open for lunch? If not, what time does it open?

Have never been to Tomkat's, so can't answer that one...slow service is something we who live on this island, just deal with. 8-)

Roy's is dinner-only; they start serving at around 6pm -- but reservations are _strongly_ advised (small, but popular dining spot for visitors and locals alike). Pricey, so be prepared.

Tomkat's is in a little courtyard in Koloa which also has a few offices on it (Garden Isle Realty for one).
There are cats wandering around and draped on the furniture.
Pleasant enough but the food wasn't anything special. I wouldn't make a special trip to Koloa just to go there.

I agree with pspercy... The Blue Book author's cute description makes Tomkat's sound more exciting for kids than it is. I expected way more cat stuff around, for my daughters to enjoy. We actually had to point out most of the cat decor for them. It is more on the quaint-side. The courtyard is nice. It was pleasant enough, food was fine, we had no problems with slow service.

There are actual cats wondering around inside the restaurant? I hate to say it, but my daughters would love that, but is it sanitary?

dont know those restaurants. just want to add my recommendations:
Postcards in Hanalei
MeMa's Thai in Kapa'a (order Evil Jungle Prince-SO ONO!)

Is it sanitary? Well, I have cats wandering around my house and I certainly consider it sanitary.

Ashley24:

Most of the restaurants here on Kaua`i are open-air -- visits by "critters" are inevitable. One of the most unusual, is Wahoooooo in Kapa`a with the herd of goats in the adjoining grove of palm trees. Ono CharBurger in Anahola is known (and loved) for its bevy of chickens who beg for handouts at all the tables. ~:>

Ok...I get the point! LOL! Is Ono Charburger the same restaurant as Duane's OnoCharburger?

auntiemaria Jun 28th, 2005 10:47 AM

Yep, that's the one. Duane moved to the mainland quite a few years ago...
