Two days in Seattle
 

Would like to know any interesting things to do in Seattle. Besides the space needle I do not no much else. I will be there on buisness but should have alot of free time.

Mike, what are your interests? Are you staying downtown and will you have a car? All these things will help posters give you good recommendations.

Seattle is a great city!
The Underground Tour is very interesting. Also, Pike Place Market should not be missed. If you have a lot of time, you can take a cruise of the locks.

With one full day in Seattle we were able to do the Underground Tour, Pike Place Market, and duck tour. We opted not to go up the space needle since it was crowded and cloudy but the duck tour is nearby and that was a fun splash into the lake. I regretted not having time to visit the Asian market area.

Some other possibilities include

• Baseball game
• Ferry ride to Bainbridge Island for views of the skyline and, on a clear day, the mountains.
• Zoo at Woodland Park.
• Klondike Gold Rush National Park in Pioneer Square
• Ye Olde Curiosity Shop on the waterfront for oddities
• Theater performance (discount tickets at Pike Place Market)

Rather than the Space Needle, I recommend going up Smith Tower to get the view from above. It's less expensive and never crowded at all (near the Pioneer Square area). Smith Tower is Seattle's oldest high rise, built ing 1912, I believe, and the elevator and top room called the Chinese Room are both stunning in their construction. There is a walkway all the way around so that you can get an overview of Seattle.

What is the underground tour?

Many years ago the street level of Seattle was raised a few feet leaving, below street level, some store fronts, a toilet, and a lot of rubble.

The Undergound Tour is a wildly popular exploration of this dismal scene lead by "guides" trained to tell jokes about rats so that tour members will buy "rats" when they find themselves dumped into a gift shop at the end of the "tour."

Underground Tour guides are also trained to make no mention of the historic buildings in the Pioneer Square neighborhood.

Far more interesting is the nearby Klondize National Park, but it is nowhere near as popular as this waste-of-time "tour."
