Thanks SteveP for your "diatribe." First, thank God, you made it. Same to the others lucky enough to have survived and telling us about it.

It was almost comforting, in spite of the tragedy, to see we were still acting like typical Americans. ....nearly 1000 people faked their own deaths! Great!

Also great was that so many that would not be here are here by the caprice of their work schedule.

Nice job SteveP of reporting on things many of us would not have dreamed of asking/thinking about.

Hi, I wanted to respond to Klen. I just watched a segment on the Today Show that featured the Max Protetch Gallery. The gallery has mounted a wonderful exhibition of architect's ideas for "replacement" buildings that will also honor the victims of the WTC. I missed part of the story, but I don't think it was an official "call for entries", I think it was a way for architects for express ideas and show their support. There were some heartening ideas presented. Perhaps you can contact the gallery for more information: 511 W. 22nd Street, New York, NY 10011 telephone: 212 633
6999 fax: 212 691 4342 email: [email protected]

1,000 people faked their deaths? Is that possible? Both towers at capacity held 50,000, so, assuming the buildings were filled to capacity (which they weren't) 1 in 50 faked their death? Not likely. I'd like to see that in print. Nice sentiment for the grieving family too: missing hubby is either in the rubble or he used it as an opportunity to leave us high and dry.

Nice.

x-it IS true about the faked deaths..a few people were arrested when caught cashing in on insurance policies..but I am not sure of the number. It is a sad but true fact that there will always be people that see an opportunity to get something for themselves-no matter how awful the circumstances.

The figure of 1000 faked deaths is totally implausible, considering that the total of dead/missing people is now 3,000 or less, that would mean that one-third of them were false?!

http://query.nytimes.com/search/abst...AB0994D9404482
