NY Public Library - what to do near there?
My Mom and I are taking a bus trip to the NYPL on Tuesday. The morning will be private tours of the library, but for lunch and the afternoon we will be free. We have to meet the bus at 4:30 so we don't want to go too far away. Any recs for a lunch place, museums or anything near by to do in the afternoon?
The address of the NYPL location is:
Mid-Manhattan Library
455 Fifth Avenue at 40th Street
Thank you for any suggestions!

Sorry - that is not the New York Public Library - but is just the largest lending branch of the library.
The real main (original) branch of the library (the one with the two enormous lions in front)is across the street - and is a reference library only - they don;t lend books at all. (This focuses on humanities and social sciences - there are other research libraries for other topics). If you qualify you can order books from the stacks and read them at the desks or carrels in the reading rooms - but you can;t take anything out.
They also usually have interesting exhibits in the outer areas before you get to the reading rooms.
So - if you are really interrested in libraries and your tour doesn;t cover this do go in - it's exquisite.
MOMA is not too far away - a 10/15 minute walk - and you could lunch there - or at any one of the casuale places you see along the way.
If you would rather do a splurge lunch you could go to the Sea Grille in rock Center, seeing St Pat's, Saks, Top of the Rock etc.

Thank you. Sorry if I didn't explain it well, I do know the one we are going to is a branch location.
How far away would we be from St. Pat's etc? We usually go there on a summer day trip and enjoy walkig around 5th. We're not against taking a taxi.

The newly reopened Morgan Library and Museum is nearby at Madison Avenue and 36th street (about 5 blocks from Mid-Manhattan) and worth a trip.

They have a cafe there that in it's earlier incarnations was really lovely. I suspect it will be as nice or nicer now

Directly behind the NYPL (the one with the lions) is Bryant Park. It is a pretty park and there are often free events going on. Inside Bryant Park is Bryant Park Grill which has a nice outdoor seating area. A nice place for lunch.
Also, almost directly across the street from the lending library you are visiting is Lord & Taylor, if you are interested in shopping.

Check to be sure MOMA is open on Tuesdays. We were there on a Tuesday morning a couple of weeks ago and there were private tours but it wasn't open to the public. There was a man who was very upset because he had come down from Massachusetts for the purpose of seeing MOMA and had read somewhere that they were closed on Mondays.
