Turtle Quarters in N.O.
 

Can anyone tell me anything about a privately owned cottage for rent that is in the French Quarter and is called Turtle Quarters? It is near Chartres and St. Phillip I believe.<BR>Thanks.

I can't find any mention of this place on the internet. Generally that is a bad sign.

Thanks for your reply...I don't believe that they do any advertising. I think that it is by "word of mouth"..they own a home and then have a cottage that they rent out...The entrance is suppose to be right down from The Chateau Hotel. Gated entrance that leads back to a house and courtyard..<BR>Someone gave us the name and said they knew someone who stayed there but I was just wanting to know if anyone on Fodors had any personal contact with this place themselves...<BR>Thank you again...

Cathie - My husband and I have been going to New Orleans for decades - at least 40 years - and I've never heard of Turtle Quarters. Unfortunately there are lots of unlicensed places that rent out short term. The danger of renting from someone unlicensed is that if you're dissatisfied in any way...dirty and/or dangerous accommodations...there's no recourse. If you eat food provided by someone unlicensed and get food poisoning, nobody cares. If you fall down and get hurt in an unlicensed place...it doesn't matter. On the other hand, if any of these things happen in a licensed place, someone will have to be accountable.

You are both prob. right ... <BR>It sounded like a good deal at the time.<BR>We were looking for some accommodation that was reasonably priced and private for a family vacation with our daughter and her husband that would be in the French Quarter and walkable to things.<BR>But I can see that reasonable and unlicensed might not be the best way to go..thanks to both for your comments.<BR><BR>Sincerely, Cathie

I would never stay in a place I did not have first hand knowledge of or a friend I trusted stayed in and recomends it. I travel a lot and to New Orleans. I have stayed in "licensed" places that were dirty, broken plumbing, creepy, and the owners bad mannered. I stayed at a BnB in New Orleans because it was advertised and licensed and they were in a very bad area with poor service and dirty rooms. So being licensed is not the answer, knowing where you are staying first hand is. Unless you know of someone who stayed there, do not take a chance. And if you suffer any damages licensed or not, you can file a law suit against the innkeeper to recover your damages.
